The PSP, info please!

I was planning on getting a PSP (the 3000 model), perhaps. I saw a PSP model (not sure which one, but the color was black) in GameStop, brand-new for 160 dollars or so. I planned on buying it, but then I wikipedia'ed and noticed that they're releasing the PSP Go in October in the United States shortly.

So my questions to you guys, for PSP users:

1) Why did you pick PSP over DS (any DS versions)?
2) Can the PSP hold music, as in, can you listen to music on your PSP?
3) Do you download music with a fee? Or can you just transfer MP3 music files directly from your computer?
4) What's the memory and all that on a PSP? This way, I can know how much music I can put into a PSP.
5) Does it save games by memory, or do I have to get one of those memory sticks or whatever?
6) Can I download PS1 or PS2 games as well?
7) What about battery functionality? How long does it last when fully charged?
8) When buying a PSP, what does it come with? Is it a USB drive, headphones, a game, or what?

If anyone could answer as much as possible (I'd prefer indepth), I'd be grateful, thanks!

Also planning on getting Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology 1 and Tales of Eternia as SOON as I get my PSP!

1) Because it has videos, less childish games, music, and it's a lot better looking.

3) Either or, it's a pretty eh process to get MP3s directly to your PSP, but yeah you can.
4) There are different memory sticks, I went with the 2GB and everything is good. There are 4 GB, 8 GB, and 16 GB. I think a 32 as well. You can store a lot of music as well game memory, and remember all memory has to be saved on the stick, there is no console memory.
5) Memory stick.
6) Not a clue on this one, sorry.
7) I can't really give you a time, but I've gone on 6+ hour trips and only used half the battery.
8) If your talking about the core pack, it comes with an adapter, power cord, and a battery pack. There's a thing called a PSP starter kit for an extra 20 bucks (May find cheaper elsewhere) but it comes with a s'hit ton of accessories.

The PSP Go doesn't interest me. The whole slide thing kind of makes me want to stay away from it. Every slide product I've ever had wore out and eventually broke (Phone, camera, etc.) I'd stick with getting a PSP 3000 with maybe a bundle pack, and the starter pack. Your good to go.

Yes.

It doesnt matter, but I use lolLimewire. I transfer all my music onto my memory stick.

The psp itself has 1 gb memory. You can expand it with a memory card. 1, 2, 4, 8, and 16 gb.

It can only be saved by a memory card.

Yes. but The question is WHY?
7) What about battery functionality? How long does it last when fully charged?
It lasted me about 8 hours when fully charge, thats if your playing games. 14 hours for music.

It depends on the package you buy. My 3000 only came with a charger.

2 screens? Ew, do not want. Crisis Core/LocoRoco/Patapon and some other games made me buy it instead of a DS.

Yes.

You can transfer them. When you access the PSP from your PC it's like a pendrive.
4) What's the memory and all that on a PSP? This way, I can know how much music I can put into a PSP.
The PSP uses Sony Memory Sticks Duo/Pro Duo. They go up to 16 GB iirc.
5) Does it save games by memory, or do I have to get one of those memory sticks or whatever?
They come in UMDs and .iso/.cso files. The .cso/.iso are saved to your memory.
6) Can I download PS1 or PS2 games as well?
Some games have been ported. Some other games can be played if you softmod it (PS1 games).
7) What about battery functionality? How long does it last when fully charged?
The phat PSP (100x models) lasted about 5-8 hours depending on use. Dunno about slim ones.
8) When buying a PSP, what does it come with? Is it a USB drive, headphones, a game, or what?
The value pack I got had a usb cable, headphones with remote control, a 32MB MS Pro Duo (ew), and PES 2007.

All in all, the PSP is great. It's A LOT BETTER softmodded. It's up to you. 3000 models can't be softmodded really well as of now. So if you plan on softmodding it (which it's illegal yes), you're better off buying an older model instead. You know, the Custom firmware can run:

- SNES emus.
- Nes emus.
- PS1 emus.
- Megadrive emus.
- GB/GBA emus.
- Homebrew applications.

As for why I would want to download PS1 / PS2 games, I was reading something on Wiki (yeslolwiki) and they said the PSP Go will have the function to download older PS games. =) But I watched some youtube vidoes of people stating that they could already do that with the current PSPs, I assumed they were modded. I guess I might either wait for the PSP Go (so I can download Tales of Eternia, it's a PS1 game =( ...) to my PSP, along with some other PS1 games I missed dearly, and this way, it's legal. That and I'm sure the battery life might be extended, and the newer PSP might have even more functionalities and add-ons. =)

Question- why the hell would you buy a PSP Go? It's $250 and you can't use UMDs. XD

5) Does it save games by memory, or do I have to get one of those memory sticks or whatever? See above. Memory sticks are needed for everything other than Go, and even then you'd probably need one, since you're storing all your games on it too.

7) What about battery functionality? How long does it last when fully charged? Umm... I'm blanking here. Guess I don't play mine enough. Good news is that when it runs out, you don't lose data. It just sleeps till you plug it in.

Just don't buy the Go. It's EXTREMELY useless. Sony just wants to compete and that's all they've ever wanted to do. "Oh you got wireless sticks Nintendo? Fine we'll just put in a bluray player, SUCK ON THEM B'ITCHES!"

The 3000 is great, really. It does everything I expected it to do, I can store whatever pics I want, I can store whatever music I want, and it still looks sleek.

The Go is just a big ass waste to look like you got something that slides down. Waste o' money my friend. Just spend the extra you would have spent on the Go, on some kick ass games.

Hmm... well hey, I don't know if your a big fan of the FF games, but the Dissidia bundle pack looks pretty kick ass, plus you get the Mystic Silver PSP. It's 200, plus it comes with a game and some extra goodies. But if that isn't your cup of tea, you can wait if your patient. It's not going to go up, so you can either hope for it to be the same, or possibly go down.

Just a question of my own: is the PSP 3000 that much better than the 2000 series? I have a 2001 (which I assume just means it's Region Coded to 1), and it's worked fine for me. That being said, I don't really use my PSP that much. XD

Oh god... Lol. Well Dissidia isn't anything like the other games. I played the demo last night and wow, I couldn't stop. It really is easy to learn, but still challenging at the same time. It comes out the 25th, gamestop exclusive. So you can pre-order it now and it comes on the 25th, or a full refund is in order I believe (Didn't really look in the warranty of shipping). Check it out mang.

Yeah, just checked it out. 39.99 for pre-order, not bad at all. Too bad it isn't the entire bundle-pack with the PSP ;-;. I'll just wait like a good lil' boy~

I wouldn't stick with the PSP Go, for a few reasons...

First, most of the stuff on the PSN aren't really that great. Sure, there's some old school PSX games but that's kind of a waste if that's the reason you're getting a PSP Go .

Next, the price is far more expensive than the 3000 model and you can't play any games on a UMD (and can you imagine your huge download failing in the middle of it?). I'm not sure if you can even get Tales of Radiant Mythology (it's lying on my pile of "to play" games) on the PSN. It's a pretty old game, so I don't even think you can get it from a Gamestop or something (not that I'd know since we don't have those in my country). I don't really know what they're going to make available in the PSN when the Go comes out but anything you can get with the Go you can probably get with a 3000; you just might need a larger memory stick though.

The PSP Go is also smaller, so not really suited for big hands if you have those. And apparently, the battery life is horrible.

It's not available yet so it's just speculation until comes out. Happy buying!

Radiant Mythology, old and new are everywhere over here, in my state anyways. Only game I'm having trouble finding for the PSP is Tales of Eternia, but that was only released in Europe and Japan, and some other countries. There wasn't a US release, so I'd have to buy the EU release version online. xP;

But ok ok, you guys convinced me, the 3000 version, it is. haha. The only 2 reasons I wanted to get a PSP so bad?

2) To play ToE again, that was my 1st and forever-favorited Tales game. I can spend hours and hours playing that >_<

There's Tales of Radiant Mythology 2 and Tales of Vs. for the PSP too but I don't know if they are going to be translated into English.

The only difference between the PSP line-ups are:
1000- The missing part of a house. This Brick can make anyone into a body builder wieght it's weight and size!
2000- The Weight off a deodorant bottle. This little weight fast machine totally made the 1000 go back to the foundation it came from.
3000- The 2000 but 30% lighter and a build in mic....
Go- wtp is this side-kick wannable, non UMD playing peach?

RM2, nobody knows if there will be a US release. I'm looking forward to Tales of VS if it comes out though, yeah. xD!!!! I wanted RM1 really bad because I always wanted to play as Reid, or at least fight him in the 3-D version.

If RM2 and VS comes out with an English OR EU release, I'd be happy, to be honest. If it's EU, I'd just go on Play-Asia or some other site and get it that way, online. As long as it's in English. =)
