Why is Maple so popular?

I don't get it... how is it so popular?
I've played for almost 4 years.... how am I still here? D:<

Because other people play it

1) Extremely addicting gameplay.
2) Unique art style.
3) Unique experience in general.
4) Real time killing?
5) Free to play.

Etc etc.

Came to the conclusion most people play for friends.

It's extremely addicting, you want all your skills maxed and have higher damage.

I think the addiction is also fueled by the fact that there is no reason NOT to play if you've got free time. Unlike games like WoW and stuff where you need to buy playtime, you can just fire maple up at any point, even if it's just for 5 minutes.

Biggest factor is right here.

With WoW, If you're bored one day, you can't just fire it up, you'd have to pay for at least a month. But even if all your NX is gone/expired, you can still fire this up, and it sets back in like a bad rash.

I play because I think it's fun. The skills are fun to use, and the game is so simple. When you level, you add points into two stats. You chose a job and a subjob, and besides that you have no stat bonuses or skills. Not to mention the 2D art style allows for much better looking art in-game, while in 3D games they have to lower the quality or it won't run well.

I always get turned off by how glitchy graphics can be in 3d. A limb can fall off, at the right angle you might see beyond a wall, it's sometimes possible to go out of the map, etc.

not to mention the skin tone of your character, matches the back ground color.
This has always been a problem when i played CS and runescape. Maple has all the colors contrasted and bright colors.. ?It just makes me feel happy when im at henesys or something.

I play because 3D graphics seem to give me a headache after 2-3 hours of playing. I've never had that problem with 2D games, but I suppose it's just because I've played too many games.

I think people enjoy the game because it is free and it's customizable to your wim. I mean, it has it's own in game-game shops and clothes shops in the way of NX. Plenty of other games and devices(Xbox Live..) sell bleeping stupid looking avatars and clothes for money so I don't see all that much harm in looking good on Maple.

Other than that, I think it's because it's quite possibly one of the best 2d games ever realized, and one of the only ones to be online-multiplayer! So yes, it's far more unique than we give it's creators

I just like to look at the positives rather than the negatives so I can enjoy the game rather than yell at Nexon every second of my life for screwing up this and that. Just my philosophy.

This is definitely one of the biggest factors. As ridiculous as Nexon's "I can because it's free" slogan was, it isn't far from the truth.

Another factor is friends. If my longtime buddies stopped playing, I probably would quit as well.

Very true. We need to stop bashing Nexon for mistakes and compliment them. I'm just happy cause Maple gives me that gay soothing feeling. gay as in happy.

Also: you know what really makes me laugh? Is when people go crazy over a skill glitch and make it sound so dier that if Nexon doesnt fix it They'll leave.... But end up staying until 6 months has passed and it gets fixed.

- kill boredom
- addictive (currently, monster card hunting obsession - got 133 so far, skeleton soldier card the latest update - finally! well, still grinding at Malady's map for a card, but the witches are not so relenting. Oopss got sidetracked..)

Those are the sole reasons why I'm still mapling after 3 years.
There are other worthwhile online gameplay, such as WOW, but somehow, I frequently drift towards the need to maple..

Because there hasn't been a better, free 2D MMORPG out there.

I sometimes wonder why I put so much time into this game...but then I realize if it's not Maple it'll be something else I'm wasting my time on. Continuing to play has the added bonuses of friends and growth in the game . It's addicting yes, but I've quit cold turkey before to study for exams and such.

All in all, it's a good way to use my free time since I need times in the day where my brain needs a rest and escape from the real world.

Incremental upgrades... there are lots of ways to get a little bit stronger that only take a day, or a week... sure you spend a lot of time total but it's only a little bit at a time.

The constant upgrades of MapleStory I guess...
