Some of the ads, or actually, all of their ads they put up are rather 'geeky'. Instead of showing 95%+ gameplay footage, they make a wacky commercial with random teenagers playing the game.. I mean, nobody's going to care about that, they want to see 'GAMEPLAY' action, something that will draw their attention and make them try it out. That's what Nexon doesn't understand.

Also, some of their ads seems too childish, come on, Ribbon Pigs running, Orange Mushrooms, etc. I know those monsters are highly... common and adored in MS, but really. Why not Dark Wyverns or show a footage of Zakum and Horntail? Because most gamers these days wants a good boss-fight, or monsters that doesn't look like pansies, seriously.

so right
i totally agree
they don't think when they put ads..
id prefer putting an ad of showing gameplay of pirate/cygnus showing movements of players monster book and fast to see you have a lot to do inside instead of "life sucks"

With the way they're doing things, it seems like they're targeting the really younger audiences, like.. 10 year olds, seriously. I mean, pigs... come on, fucking pigs!

I just saw my first ever commercial on MTV 2 days ago. It was the newest one with all the nx and then at the end it says FREE TO PLAY. Free my ass.

It is free. I haven't charged NX in months upon months and I do fine.

Saying that maple story isnt free because there is cash shop is like saying that southperry isnt free because there are ads.

This. All their ads are about "free" gaming, but the cash shop is a nice big red button that you look at every minute of grinding. You look at it as your exp starts to slow down, as your xp bar decreases due to death, when you don't allocate an SP the right way... all the time. But yes, it's TOTALLY free gaming. Tongue

I concur with Mark here. I haven't spent a dime in MS. And you can do fine. The cash shop button is for people that get tired of mindless grinding and try to make the game easier.

If you already got to 4th job without NX, why would you need it after that anyway?

They might be thinking the gameplay isn't any attractive from the outside.

Life doesn't suck for me, but I guess I usually logged into maple whenever I feel bored or feel the urge to add another card to my monster book - obsession alert!

Most of the ads aren't made to appeal to gamers. They're meant to get the people who normally wouldn't play to get on maplestory and start playing. Most of the ads don't show any gameplay at all, and from a gamer's perspective, it would be the worst ad for a video game ever. But the ad isn't meant for video game players, it's meant to get the general public in there, and they could possibly be targeting younger groups, due to the cute-sy nature of their ads. I'm not sure about MTV anymore, but their shows used to be targeted at the 13 ~ 17 age group, possibly even younger. So to have ads that portray mostly the cute, loveable side would be more logical for those viewers.

nexon is aiming for 10years old kids to get in the game, so they can spend a lot of nx with useless things like nx clothes, aka hene hoar.

since when nexon cared about high lvl players? or about serious players? :f6:

in a game where the highest level boss is this Tongue1 i think their audience enticing strategies arent.. awful, but they could be better.
maplestory isnt like most other games, sure the monsters start out cute and slowly look more menacing but with the final boss as a cute pink thing it sort of throws the whole 'regular rpg' argument out of the window

Maple is free in that they don't force you to pay to be able to do anything in the game, save pets and store permits. There are no pay to play classes, no CS only place (apq kinda, but meh.) A vast majority of the game is free. And as was said before, you can use the MTS to do that stuff. People that say the game isn't free are just completely cynical about everything in Maple.

and the inflation and spamming stuff going on in maplesea is....
