Did they finally work around Snipe?
#1
I've been noticing recently that the new JQ monsters and even the Boxes in the Mini-dungeons are working as event things should with snipe. That is to say, they get hit, however are not immediately killed. The JQ ones even take the full damage but don't die.

My question, directed towards anyone who can read the data, is have they actually managed to get snipe worked out with events and JQs properly? I mean, not just with a cheap fix of adding a boss tag and all. I suppose this could count all % base attacks as well.

I know some people may be displeased to hear this if it is true, but I personally think that they could and should make the game not intended and just leave this "opps, but it isn't worth the effort" kind of bug in the game.

Wait, you mean Snipe used to kill them for some reason?

While Snipe and Heaven's Hammer give the appearance that they are dealing full damage against such targets, the reality is that they are completely unaffected. Some of those mobs are invincible (Dark Muscle Stone, the flying books in the haunted house, JQ stirges and neckis) while few others are "default attack only" mobs (Happyville Snowman, Halloween ghosts, Agent Box).

Oddly enough, Blood Stirges are the only mobs that actually say "miss" when I use the BanHammer on them o.O

As a good note, invincible flags and that other flag are NOT boss flags. But for their intents and purposes, they're pretty much unkillable by means not intended.

Snipe at blood stirges disconnects everyone within a screen's radius of it, lol. At least it used to.

Yes, it did used to work, and I have yet to check, but I believe it still does on many of the earlier ones (excluding blood stirges). As another example, those ghosts in Heny that you needed to explode to kill, and the Bot-Catcher pre-defense downed could be OKOed by snipe.

The thing I was trying to get at was if they were actually starting to work around it. As for the boxes, I believe you had it at "set damage flag". But I'm going to assume that the JQ Hoguls have boss flags and really high hp unless someone else can find some sort of evidence.

It seems to me though, that the problem lies within this "invincible flag" you mentioned. We go through those like nothing and I'd like to see it changed.

I realized that HH's little "HP bar" animation is fake Sad it appears backwards on monsters that are facing right, and it happens no matter what HP they lose. I wish it would show their actual HP..

The bot-catcher mobs just have insane avoid and a variant of the ban skill (Dodo and a PB hawk statue has this too). There's nothing that make them special otherwise. The Henesys Ghosts just have insane avoid.

Mind if I ask what made you think the JQ Hoguls have the boss flag?

Also, what makes a monster "invincible" should be handled by the executable and server code. Nothing much we can do if that doesn't work properly.

Certainly. The reason is when I sniped it, it took the near 200k dmg, but didn't die. The only other cases I can see that happening is with monsters that have a boss flag, since otherwise, snipe has the inherent ability to OKO (outside of other glitched instances where it does far more damage than possible, leading to a d/c). I would actually be happy to be proven wrong here since it would mean they have another means to prevent sniping where it doesn't belong, so feel free to look into it.

So let me get this straight... if you were to Snipe an "invincible" monster inside one of the Victoria JQs, it dies. If you Snipe a Dark Muscle Stone (GPQ mob that does 33k touch damage, I think 10 mil HP), you would d/c.

This is proving to be very interesting, since BanHammer CANNOT kill anything by itself.

Confirming the first, however failing to confirm on the second. (I failed at being a guildmaster Tongue). And yes, bowman skills have always had... interesting tendencies to them. From puppet to Mortal Blow to this, they seem to require a bit of extra code refining to not have issues outside of their primary use.

Who said you needed to be a guild master to get into GPQ? But that's not the point. My friend later checked the JQ "Hogols" (misspelled, that didn't help) and they indeed have the boss flag, in addition to having an ample amount of HP figuring in the several millions. Boss flag is probably Nexon's "fix" to the Snipe shenanigans.
