The thing is, gif and apng animations have a static delay value, meaning that the delay between every two frames is the same. In directx, you can delay each frame with a different value. For example, in the character blinking animation (very similar to the dragon chairs animation) theres a delay of about 100ms between each frame, and then about 6000ms at the last one. this is why you see people blinking fast once, and then not blinking at all for a few seconds.

APNGs have dynamic delay value in fractions, meaning you can set the delay to be 1/3 second on first picture, and 2/1000 (2 milliseconds) in the second. Heck, you can even have no delay if you want to.

I think ill just use the .NET PngBitmapEncoder...
