SAT I/SAT II Subject Tests Discussion

Since the SAT's are being offered this Saturday, June 6th (last one until school starts up again), I just want to start up this thread for anything that's related to the SAT I/SAT II Subject Tests.

Anything related to those tests can be discussed here in any ways possible. (except test questions that will possibly be used on Saturday! If you had knowledge of those questions beforehand, please do not discuss those as its a complete violation of the policies set forth by College Board. And I'm being serious here.). If you need help on a practice test question, post it here!

 For me....

Taking these two SAT II subjects this Saturday:

- Math IIC
- World History

So far, doing very, very bad on Math IIC. Got a 730 and 700 on the last 2 practice tests I took. But on World History, got a 800 on it (however, based on my raw score, Im close to dropping from 800 to a 790, so probably need to beef it up a bit before Saturday's test. Otherwise, World History is in good shape. Brb procrastinating on Math IIC >_<).

If you are not a native speaker of a language besides English, nor do you orgasm when someone mentions grammar or vocabulary of said foreign language, stay the pineapple away from any foreign language SAT Tests.

^ Aren't the curves for some of those ridiculously easy?

Then again that's what I hear from people who are native speakers, so that might not count.

I wouldn't think about those "generous curves."

Really, that's only to give you a bit of breathing room for the tougher tests. I prefer to think it as any test that is scored normally to give me the sense to try my best. If I think of the curves, I'm simply putting myself to a lower standard - not good for my scores.

I decided to BS through the Physics SAT Subject test for kicks, meaning no preparation whatsoever before-hand, and I managed to get a 630, which was apparently within the 80 percentile range.

AP and SAT Kaj. For AP, its a policy of "you cannot discuss it through any means possible". Same goes with SAT (they make you sign a pledge adhering to this policy for the sake of testing integrity).

(Saying about AP.....for the free response questions, test-takers are not supposed to leak them until 48 hours after the examination. xD)

I took them way back in 2001, but if anyone wants a reference point on what scores they need to beat mine, they are: Verbal 650, Math 720, Writing 800, Biology (M) 640, Math II© 740. This was before Writing was added to the SAT I, and I fell asleep during my SAT I, so my V and M scores on that test should probably have been higher. My ACT was a 31, if anyone wants to beat me on that, but like the SAT I it's much easier now than it was then.

If you beat a 480 on Verbal or a 510 on Math, you beat the score I received when I took it in 7th grade.

^ I don't blame you for falling asleep, it was boring as hell and far too long. I almost did the same. I don't understand why they don't just let you leave after you're done.

Math - 800
Writing - 570
Math IIC - 750
Chemistry - 720

Haha, I fell asleep during the ACTs. I took the June one, and my school was out for a few weeks already, so I ended up getting only 30 minutes of sleep the night before since I kind of woke up at 4pm the day before. Got a 34 on it though o_O

In 7th grade I got 1130 overall with just the two sections xP

I took the test in 1998, and scored a 1250, which at that point was good, but in itself not sufficient to get into the "top" schools. I studied for two years and transferred to a school I thought was academically challenging enough.

Preparation for the SAT cannot be done in one or two days. There are preparatory courses given for it, they take months. Unlike tests like the LSAT, the SAT is knowledge based. If you have been doing well in the humanities and math and such, you'll be fine. Even if not, good grades can get you admitted even if the SAT isn't great.

Victim of overhyping, I see. The last time I checked (which admittedly was in 2001) no college in the entire United States had an average SAT verbal or math section above 750, except for maybe Deep Springs College. 700 on the SAT I math section (which supposedly should score higher than the IIC test) would put you above at least 1/4th of even the students at Princeton, which last I heard was far and away the most selective four-year school.

Besides, most schools don't take the SAT so seriously now that it's been pretty well discredited. (It can't help their credibility that in 7th grade, I found a multiple-choice math question that had two correct answers because the test writers forgot that -2 squared is a positive number.) The ACT is a bit more respected, and on that a 31 in 2001 would have put you above average at every 4-year US college except Princeton (33) and Harvard (32). But even the ACT isn't comparable to, say, a challenging high school curriculum that includes AP courses, a list of awards and activities (such as orchestra or being an Eagle scout), or even the essays.

Well, content of questions aside, how did you guys think you did today? I took the Bio E/M, and picked the M portion. To tell the truth, I thought it was pretty ridiculously easy, although I may be a bit too cocky. :\

I don't understand why people take it in 7th grade. It's super boring and you'll have to retake it again eventually o_o

I actually never heard of them in 7th grade, or at least I don't remember. I just went along my merry way past middle school and I am still clueless now as a sophomore. If the test was free, maybe I would've taken the Chem one, but $20 (or whatever the fee is) to waste my morning when I could be spending it sleeping? No thanks.

I took it in 7th grade because my mom wanted me to apply for this scholarship thing so I could go to a private high school. At the time, I didn't know any better.

I didn't finish the essay, lol.

I forget what my scores were in each section, and don't feel like looking them up, but I got a 800 in math and somewhere in the low 600s in the others. The funny thing is that my PSAT converted score from last year was barely any higher..

Edit: And I apologize if I inadvertently bumped this thread up, or by how much.. I wouldn't think it's much since it's only been 4 days and this -is- the Rubik's Cube. But when you're looking through threads in lists other than the conventional ones you never know...
