Basically, my Old hard drive( a 250gb western digital) started to fail and stop spinning, and I quickly found out it has bad sectors. So I go buy a new hard drive, a 500gb Seagate barracuda w/ 16mb cache and try to reformat. It goes through the normal partitioning and NTFS formatting(full not quick) and once it finishes and reboots, there is nothing on my computer.
The problem is basically this:There is nothing on my computer(yes I know formatting wipes it out), I can't use the internet/browsers because there is no Internet explorer and I can't install anything. When I connect my external hard drive and try to use setups(ex hardware drivers or firefox installation) they don't work. The setups run but then stop and tells me I don't have kernel.dll or it's corrupt/non accessible.
**Extra Information**
I Formatted about 6 times with a Windows xp Performance edition(crack) as well as an ACTUAL windows xp pro cd and both have the same results after formatting.
Both the old hdd and new hdd are SATA hard drives. I've tried practically everything so far and I have no idea what to do now.
Also, I have no floppy drive and cannot install the sata drive drivers before the installation, but my computer has no problem detecting the hard disks after the formatting process.
Does anyone know what causes this or anything to fix this?
I've gone to frys and exchanged the hard drive for another one and the same thing occurs. I'm formatting my old hard drive now(the one with bad sectors) to see if it's a problem with my whole computer setup or just the hard drive. I've reformatted on my old harddrive before and I've never had problems with it.
The windows xp cd's don't seem to be the problems because I've formatted 4 computers about 3-4 weeks ago (2 for mom's friend, girlfriend's laptop, this 2nd computer[pentium 3]). The only thing different is those 4 computers are intel and my main computer is an AMD.
Note: I just formatted my old hard drive and the SAME thing happens. I'm starting to think it's something with my motherboard or something now.
