For the next argumentative essay assignment, my class has to write a 10 page paper outlining the agenda, structure, and implementation of a US law, then saying what are its downfalls and cooking up a new structure/implementation. (we'll stick to federal laws since I doubt most of you are from Washington State.)
For example, a guy wrote an essay titled "TV isn't violent enough". The thesis statement is self-explanatory, but his reasons why are because TV violence doesn't depict realistic injuries or death. Punching someone in the head would result in a broken fist and not a cracked skull or an unconscious person, to name one. Realistic violence is much more painful and gory than we'd imagine. Children watch TV daily, and they might see that violence is a fun thing, and might some day commit a crime or something thinking "it's just that easy". On the other hand, realistic depictions will deter children from committing such violent acts.
Help me think of laws to write about!
