All the characters I made were made ONLY for my main to take advantage. Now nearing lv 200 and poor as a rat, I can safely go die everywhere, and raise my traits. And maybe get some money to afford decent equipment.
It's quite fun to play that way, actually. I'm about to max Willpower, and already did Ambition and Dilligence. The rest will be harder, but hey, I'm up to the challenge.
Very first time I played the game, I made an archer in Bera. (Windia was just the newest world at this time) I ended up getting to about level 23, (which took me about a month to actually do), then I realised that my stats were pretty badly messed up --that I guess you weren't actually supposed to 'Balance' them. I decided theres no way I was doing that again without having any friends to play with, and went back to FFXI.
Next time I came to Maple, I joined with a friend of mine (started in Bello, a few days before V.42 rolled out). We both made archers, got to around level 52ish (over the span of the next 5 months.)
By this time, Monster Carnival was rolling out, which intrigued us. We made mages to level and try it out. Spent days upon days with it, it was pretty fun back in the day. Played until about June, and then we moved on to a new game.
Three characters so far, no concern of mine over what my "main character" is, or if I even thought of it like that at the time.
September 2008, I find myself coming back to the game once again. Ex-girlfriend I was with at the time played in Broa, and I made an archer in Broa, but was a bit "not feeling it" to log on, well..November rolls around, and I hear about pirates. I was intrigued by Gunslingers, and decided to make one. I found the class quite fun, but then stopped playing it around level 30. About this time, My EX and I stop seeing eachother. I put off Maple until...Summer! The friend that played with me and Bello remembered how fun monster carnival was, and asked if I wanted to come back with him. I continue my pirate, and he made a spearman. For the first time, I'm actually into the game much more than just casually playing it, I actually Met people while CPQing, and my pirate is the first character I level to Fourth Job. Was a big achievement for me.
My friend quits, and gives me his Spearman account. Ends up he was also leveling a Cleric on the side. I really liked Mages from Bello, and the only one we didn't play was Cleric. (He was an F/P, I was an I/L). Being new to Cleric, I liked being able to heal, and having teleport for better mobility. I make this my new main, since My corsair was unable to do much at the time, being Kyrin didn't give the quest for Battleship Cannon. Once I was a priest, training got quite easy. I would spend hours holding "Heal" in the Toy Room map, usually I had a keyboard at my feet, with heal on space. Then I could read, or something on PSP. Needless to say, 120 came fast.
I hopped around and experimented with a lot of classes, but my bishop stayed my main. I was quite happy with it, and had inspiration to go all the way to 200, from another friend who was fast approaching it herself. September 11th, 2010, My account gets hacked. I lose quite a bit, including the characters (all deleted). I decide that I shouldnt be trying to play with characters spanning across 4 accounts anymore, since it means I'm 4 times likely to get hacked. At one time, I had made a name for each job available, and planned to PG leech all of them in my spare time, while training myself. I stick to my corsair's account until Big Bang. Another mage rolls around, and this becomes my new main. Battle Mage was a thrill, the same thrill you get when you walk into a sears on a hot afternoon and get blasted by those Dyson fans in the breezeway. (Or the same thrill I got when I finally had a bishop). My goal with my Battle Mage was to fulfill the goal my Bishop could never do, and that was to reach 200. My goal was accomplished by the end of Summer, 2011. (Not without making a few enemies, to say the least. A number of others would DC me if I was training simply because someone -else- didn't want me to be 200 before them. Guess the top 10 ranks for Battle Mages were pretty cutthroat in Broa, but by this time, Most of my friends are all quitting, and the haters are just causing me more headaches. I quit the game. Everyone left in the guild I led, I tell to move on.
January 2012, My stress feeling over the game goes away, and my Girlfriend wants me to come back. (She was a bit sad when i left, and also sad when I sold off all of my stuff over Paypal, because it meant I might not come back one day.) What was left of my guild stuck together in a new guild, and, being the archer-liker I am, I make a mercedes. Mercedes remains my main to this day. It's everything I ever liked about other classes, all wrapped up in an archer package. If Archers were like this from the beginning, I would've never made a mage. I enjoyed playing Mages because of their early mobility, and how impressive their fourth job was to me. I've stuck with Mercedes since the day I made it. I've never called anything else my "main" since my bishop 2 years beforehand.
My main and first level 200 is still my main to this day. She's not "my nightlord" she's me. I have a practical army of characters of all kinds and levels, but no matter what else I have, they are not me. Just alts. I started playing one month before 4th job came out and she was the first I made when I started, solely because my friend who got me to join this game told me NOT to make a thief because they were so expensive at the time, had a bad rap, and I was a newbie. Challenge accepted
I may not play her nearly as much because of all these alts I have, but when I do its like that comfy sweater you always love to have. She just feels right.
I started Maple way back in 2005, on Bera. After failing to find inspiration to get a bowman and a warrior to 30, my first level 30 was a magician. At the time I was leaning toward ice/lightning, but a friend convinced me that Clerics were the best and the strongest. Stuck with that one for several years, never finding inspiration to get it past 60 due to the reliance on partying that clerics tend to need.
Moved to Broa around 2006/2007 and created an assassin. That assassin is my current main, though I've branched out to create various other characters at the same time. I am not a tremendously active player, hence the fact that my highest level is 13x.

First character was a cleric. Never did manage to get it past 35. Switched to an assassin in Windia and never looked back. I've never really found the same joy in any other class as I have in being an assassin.
INT page (because they use magic attacks...right?) > high luk priest with hp scrolled gear > high str bowmaster (now strless) > pre-bb shad (made for post bb fun times) > quit > back to bowmaster
and thats my maple career, minus various mules for link skills
Corsair 4 lief! Started out with at least 20+ luk cause I thought it increased droprate. Thank god for them free AP resets Nexon gave out. And I didn't forget becoming a quest hoar, and not leveling from 69 to an outlaw until BB hit. Ahh, good times.
I've stuck with my NL since I started in late 2006 and it's still my main. My NL had 140 base dex cause people would tell me to add 3 LUK 2 DEX as my build (I resetted years ago though to 25 base). lol I wish I remade the character though cause I went level 1-120 without using INT gear but I couldn't give up on it/couldn't delete it so I stuck with it and triple washed my HP a bit instead.
GMS- Made a bunch of characters, couldn't stick to them. Highest level was 86.
KMS- Made a demonslayer got to 200
Made a bunch of characters to fill the gap, couldn't find one that was just right
Made a kaiser, fell in love again and am now 9 level away from 200 in just a couple weeks.

February 2006 is where I started playing MapleStory when I was still on GaiaOnline. Upon making a warrior, I screwed up by adding points into HP which made me job advance late. I had to remake him so that way I add points into STR and DEX. Back then, accuracy was mandatory for warriors since we suffered not being able to attack as many monsters without accuracy. My remade warrior was an Axe fighter. At early levels, training from level 30 to 35 was hard to get across. When I decide to get NX, I decided to change the hairdo and hair color. Once I reach level 60, I realized that I screwed up in terms of HP, so I was going to make a sequel to what used to be my main. This time, I was thinking about what it is like to wield Sword and Axe.

This character became my main character after making it in April 2008. Meaning I had to leave skill points at a minimum on most of the skill, presumably useless skills (especially in 3rd Job, since the only skills that were useful were Combo Attack and Coma (before level 127, which I didn't reach until after Big Bang came along,) and I thought Panic was useful, which it wasn't useful. Something told me I should have made either DrK or Knight because Crusaders had the skills that are useless.) I was biased against maxing Rage because of the community in GMS. The only purpose when Rage was useless IMO was before Big Bang as you can get Ciders. Ciders are hard to get used to considering they don't stack (I did get used to them.) At later levels, these monsters were major potion burners, which is why I had to stick with a Priest as a Crusader. After Big Bang came along, I decided that the fact that Rage is useless is irrelevant and maxed it using the SP I got from the Axe version, (No Energizers because Neo City can burn in Hades! *Creepy roar*) and Shout grew on me after using it for a while.

I leveled my Gunslinger from Lv55 to Lv80 Valkyrie (Outlaw) right before MSEA got BB. No idea how the hell I managed to pull that off when I quit it at Lv55 due to the intense grind, but yeah.
