Nexon Q & A Followup

Chameleonic Wrote:I think it is directly related to cultural differences. I may be wrong but the way I see it Nexon America is a so called "American" company but still run by Koreans with the Korean way of thinking. As long as Nexon America is tightly controlled from Korea with their own administrators things will continue the way they are. It does not bode well for the health of the game.

That's definitely true to some extent. But, I was not talking about that specifically. Cultural differences aside, Nexon America's current staff are disconnected from the community and what needs to be done. They have to rely on players to determine issues. It's clear that none of them actively play the game so they don't understand what is really wrong with the game. They have no idea about the economy, hacking, the way players interact and how different features affects gameplay, and so on. Yes, they are controlled by Nexon Korea and are just adapting KMS content for GMS, but many of the issues in the game stem from the disconnect between Nexon and their players. They lack a concrete and in-depth understanding of how the game is played which could be rectified by actually immersing themselves in the game they create (or hiring actual players to be part of their team...which is obviously unlikely as far as development goes, but their 'volunteers' on the GMS official forums actually have more say than you would think).

If you want my opinion as much as I enjoy the game, at the current rate it will survive a few more years at best. Things change so quickly now, especially with internet-based companies, that unless you're constantly reinventing yourself and pushing boundaries you will quickly become extinct. The only reason MapleStory is still around, in my opinion, is because it is a genuinely good game and has a lot of dedicated players. Still, it's easy to make it seem like Nexon is doing better than they are and I think the fact that they've started to open up even just a bit is evidence that things aren't going very well.

I'm dissapointed I missed the opening of this. I'm more dissapointed of the answers they gave us as well. They missed the entire point of my question and I still believe that "Broken promise" wasn't the best opening to that question.

The biggest problem with maplestory is it has by far gotten to far with the pay to win. There are litterally 12 different ways to make your item the most efficient as possible...for only 3 months to not be replaced by not new content, but a new varient to get an extra line on it. They need to remove this cube system, re-evaluate and make it reasonable. It costs nearly $100 in NX to get ONE piece of gear to a satisfactory level. That's absolutely ridiculous, not only that but you NEED that satisfactory to enjoy the end game content.

I don't care about the meso buying, NX is the new currency, everyone would choose it as it's meso's in bulk. Isn't the ratio like 80m for $1. AND THAT'S THE LOW END. How can they say this is compensated by these sh`itty events that majority are exploited and work against us ANYWAY. Most of them even f`ucking expired. How does those type of rewards even remotely compensate the 1000x boost cubes give? Either someone isn't aware there is no "checks and balances" or they really just like laughing at us. All you listen too are the most retarded representation of the entire game community who want to suck your rectum to become something credible in your companies eyes.

We as the community just told you the game's unbalanced, and you respond with "We have a proffesional who checks that stuff, you just don't get it". Obviously you don't when people are capable of maxing out their damage range for a grand.

Not only are the stats random, but they allow you to use cash shop items to attempt at bettering them, and keep them for longer (Though of course they run out so they're hoping you'll go ahead and repeat the process).

I was actually referring to cwk trade in, but with golden temple intentional or not they patched it out within 2 days? This is nexon we are talking about the only other thing patched that fast was when newties dropped red tokens for the halloween belt.
Also taking an event from the only version more broken then GMS probably isn't a good idea now is it

Actually, they were meant to be in the game. I remember when Nexon included them in their notice prior to their release. It was no "glitch".
Dark Link Wrote:Glitches? What about the Golden Temple event? Nexon said it was intentional, but the outcry of bitching and moaning made Nexon remove them.
First of all, it was never a glitch, despite what Nexon/anyone says about it in hindsight.

Secondly, I see the whole "people complained so we removed it after two days" as a cop out for "we removed it because we've just noticed how damaging we think they can be for the game". By removing them from dropping but not removing the ones which already dropped, Nexon actually made it MORE damaging to the game than it already was.

And the people who 'complained' were probably the actual hackers botting and duping the scrolls. If you really think about it, why would anyone legit complain about these scrolls being so easily obtainable? Removing the scrolls from dropping but keeping the already obtained ones after two days can only help the hackers by inflating GM prices to death.

Thanks for that Nexon. Tongue

So everyone who complains about the game being 'easy mode' now is already a hacker and just wants the game to be harder so everyone else has to work extra hard for it so they shine all the more?

Not what I meant at all. I am not implying that it's wrong to complain about the game being too easy, or too hard for that matter. I am simply stating that I think if anyone did complain, it would mostly be the hackers obtaining them, in order to inflate their price and try to monopolize them once the ability to obtain them without cheating is gone. If you remember that 'glitch' where you can get 50% scrolls just from creating an aran... nothing was done about that glitch... and NO ONE complained about it. Why would people complain about GMs when they were merely a small step above 50%s in effectiveness?

I also doubt there was much complaining anyway since Nexon has always had a tendency to ignore tickets and forum posts until sometimes months later. I didn't notice much of a backlash except maybe by the ignorant on basil.

Regardless of what "complaints" exactly happened, it didn't fix the problem whatever it was since GMs went on to be duped to death. Even making them untradeable didn't solve the problem either. So tell me who wins in this scenario? It isn't Nexon, and it isn't legit players.

edit: another valid reason why nexon probably decided to remove GMs is that keeping them recurringly obtainable would probably kill their white scroll/pam thong sales.

I fail to see how Nexon would lose anything. If you want to look specifically at GM scrolls, let's do that. First, are we looking at someone who is doing the absolute maximum to obtain a top-notch item?

Let's assume that we do have someone who will pay any amount to get the best possible item. Well, in this situation, GM scrolls aren't even used. Instead, we have 20% scrolls for 7-8 attack; we have to Ward these. Well, who wins in this situation? Nexon does, don't they? Nexon would get 50k NX in Wards, 28k in Scrolls (assuming it's more efficient than White Scrolls), and 8.5k in Hammers. Enhancements? Well, expect another pile of Wards.

Let's assume that we have someone who is poor, just willing to GM scroll. Well, chances are, this person can't afford to scroll it all at once. Now we have someone who would have to use Scissors every time they want to scroll it, on top of Hammers. There probably won't be many Enhancements, but in the end, Nexon still gets money.

Tell me, why wouldn't Nexon win? Nexon always wins.

You are wrong. I specifically remember them not being in any announcement, and how surprised people were to see them dropping.

No. It was a cop-out for "oops, we didn't realize they would drop and we don't want to admit we were so stupid."

Normally, It would be A LOT more than 50k in wards. If you're trying to 20% scroll a weapon with 9 slots, that would be 45 wards to be used on average. If a ward is even at reduced price at 5 bucks a pop, even that would total to 225 bucks on average. When all is said and done, it'd cost somewhere around 300-400 bucks to perfect 20% a weapon, and that's WITH a sale on wards/shields/etc.. It's completely impractical and I'd think most people, even well-funded people, wouldn't even THINK to try it, knowing the final expenses would be that large. All that for a mere 18 extra attack is completely not worth it.

It's not that Nexon wouldn't get money (and a lot of it), it's that nexon would get less if GMs wouldn't be around since whites/shields would not be very popular amongst everyone (non glove and non weapon equips aren't as crucial because they up to this point aren't commonly scrolled for attack, save for magic attack earrings - but there's no GM for that anyway). And I believe in fact that Nexon have gotten less than they normally would in sales from wards/shields/etc from GMs not going away.

Wards being used on enhancements would happen regardless of whether GMs would or would not be common, so that is a moot point. Nexon still gets money, but they get less with one scenario than the other. We're talking about the incredibly cheap option of GM-ing (with much less being spent on white scrolls/shields/wards/pams/etc), versus the incredibly expensive option of perfecting without GMs.

I don't know if notices can be traced all the way back to around that time, but I am almost certain there being a prior notice about GT with pictures of the GM scrolls and other items which were supposed to drop...with no question that they were 'intended' at that point.

edit: ninja'd, I guess I'm mistaken. Regardless, I still see the "we're removing them due to player complaints" as utter BS.

How cute, if you haven't played maple long enough to know where GM scrolls first came from don't reply. When something is patched/made inaccessible immediately(by Nexon standards) it is a glitch/harmful to the game as a whole.
Nebulite Boxes dropping every kill? Glitch
Halloween tokens dropping from newties allowing people to make 10+ atk belts in an hr? Glitch
GM scrolls given out in anyway that didn't involve nx? Glitch

I have played since 2005...

And I already admitted I was wrong in case you haven't noticed.
