I'm pretty sure it was stated in Aran's storyline that Rien only became frozen due to the Black Mages Curse (the same that froze Aran), however in the Past-Leafre Arkarium pre-quests, Alfrien says that Rien is a frozen island already

I can't find it, but didn't they announce the release dates for the Tempest patches a while back, with 8/29 being the final update?

So, shouldn't the Black Mage be on KMST soon? Or are they going to release him bugged so he's unbeatable, so they can make him last?

They're not releasing the Black Mage as a boss monster. They're preparing for new villains in the Grandis world. The last Tempest update is on the 23rd.

In before Black Mage gains new powers and becomes 100x more powerful than Magnus. Also, to add to the "difficulty", being killed by Black Mage means you're reset to level 10.
