I've already read it in Japanese (and helped with the translations).

Im not that big a fan, i read it online already, dont really want to pay for it, no matter how good the illustrations are (as it will eventually end up on the internet for free)

Hi, guys,

Thank you so much for all your work on the Hyrule Historia fan translation. The project has received a ton of attention from Zelda fans and Zelda fansites like ZeldaDungeon Zelda Universe, and ZeldaInformer. It has even been reported on by major gaming news sites such as IGN, GamesRadar, and Kotaku.

Now that the official localization has been announced, you're probably wondering about the future of our work. Here's where I have a confession to make:

I contacted Dark Horse directly upon hearing the news, figuring we wouldn't be able to stay in the shadows for long when the project is one of the top Google results for "Hyrule Historia". I asked them if they were localizing the book in-house (as opposed to outsourcing the translation to another company and simply publishing the results), and expressed my interest in being part of the official project. I was worried about losing such an important part of the website if we were ordered to take it down, but I wanted to see if I could jump on the opportunity instead of sitting around and waiting on their mercy when they inevitably noticed us.

Long story short, I'm now involved with the official localization. In my conversation with the head of the project, I did my best to emphasize that I thought the hype generated from our unofficial translation had done a lot in terms of helping spur interest in an official release. As a result, while he may ask that we take down our translations closer to the English release in January 2013, he respects our work overall. He said "I would like to keep the site up for now. If anything, I believe it will help sales." I also let him know that, if it was to be taken down, I wanted to give the other translators some time to collect their work, in case they wanted to save it for a portfolio or posterity. He replied, "Please do tell the translators to collect their work. I would hate to catch them unawares." I'll give you some warning before I take things down, if it comes to that, but I wanted to let you know in advance. In addition, I'm toying with the idea of just making the posts private or passworded, so you'd still be able to retrieve them or view them on the site whenever you like. They just wouldn't be open to the public. After all, we've done more than 200 pages. It would be a shame to delete them from the internet completely. I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem to publicly rehost your work on Hyrule Historia elsewhere, as it wouldn't be connected to me.

Finally, if you'd like to continue translating for GlitterBerri's Game Translations or have a section on the site (or a sub-site?) for your work, I'd be more than happy to provide that for you. It's the least I can do in return for all your efforts, and I'd love my site to feature cool translations from a whole bunch of people. If you're interested in doing more translations and are looking for material to translate, I have a big stockpile of game-related stuff, like Mario manga, Zelda art, and developer interviews from a whole bunch of games that still need to be done. Just email me back if you'd like a list.

If that's the case, it's possible they might carry over already done translations. There's a chance my work might be put into the official book. :o

I probably would not receive credit for any of it, but it would be cool to see what I've done in an official document.
