The Dark Knight's Dark Night (Shooting in Aurora)

CNN Wrote:-- At least 14 people were killed and 50 were wounded when a gunman opened fire during an early Friday morning screening of the new Batman movie at an Aurora, Colorado, theater, Police Chief Dan Oates told reporters.

The man suspected of opening fire on the crowded theater was taken into custody, Oates said.

The heavily armed suspect, who was wearing a bulletproof vest, was apprehended by police in a parking lot at the theater, Frank Fania, a police spokesman told CNN. The identity of the suspect has not immediately been released.

"We do no have evidence of a second gunman," Oates said.

Of the wounded, at least 20 were being treated at the University of Colorado Hospital, said spokeswoman Jacque Montgomery. All of the wounded suffered from gunshot wounds, which ranged from minor to critical, she said.

"They're arriving by police, by ambulance. Some are walking in," she said.

The shooting incident occurred during the showing of "The Dark Knight Rises" at the Century Aurora 16 theater, police and witnesses said.

"We saw people running around and screaming," a man, who was not identified, told KUSA.

He said there was confusion in the theater when the shooting began because many believed the sound of gunfire was coming from the movie next door.

Oates said that the suspect used some sort of "smoke device" before opening fire in the theater.

Witnesses, however, told KUSA that the gunman kicked in an emergency exit door and threw a smoke bomb into the darkened theater before opening fire.

Jesus christ.

I read elsewhere there's reports of possible multiple bombs in vehicles, with one confirmed explosion, and a second suspect is in custody. Also, your CNN link seems dead now.

Fixed it. And yeah, I heard that too. Not sure why CNN isn't reporting it.

Just got home and saw this smacked in front of CNN. I don't even have words to describe this horrible tragedy that happened. My thoughts and prayers go out to those hurt, those that lost their lives today, and those who saw the horrific scene unfold firsthand. Frown

My friend happened to be watching the movie at this theater (Thankfully in another screening room, not the same as the shooting) and she texted: "Something is wrong at the theater and we're being evacuated, there is no fire alarm or anything though but people are saying there was a shooting." after I had told her not to spoil anything for me.

Lo and behold. Very, very depressing... Deeply saddened by the losses of lives at such an event. It really sickens me that people have the mentality to go and do something like this.

Inb4 some moralists (known in Finland as "flowerhat ladies", w/e the English word is), will suggest a total ban on all violent movies and games, because of this tragedy.

I saw this story this morning and it reminded me of this shooting in Oakland:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/07/09...60485.html

Wounded 5 people looking to watch the Spiderman movie. While not as severe as the Colorado one, they'll likely not get any justice for years solely because Oakland's crime units are backed up the wazoo due to lack of funding and lack of actual officiers. Though I believe that they apprehended a couple of suspects and know that the shootings were unrelated to the movie goers, unlike the Batman one where it appears they were the targets.

It's all over everything this morning, this is just terrible...

Both the event, and the fact that I feel more depressed each time it pops up.
