Hunter's Luck, basically? I agree.

For a while they gave out 2x via a coupon, but they never made it so you could claim the coupon at any given time during the time span. So they've at least head in the right direction.

So the PQ itself is still only 100 each time, pre- or post-nerf? How long is the PQ?

The main reason why they haven't done this is because there is a certain motive behind 2x events as well as Hot Time events. They try to increase their average players connected overall, as well as reach peaks during important times. It's important for them to consistently demonstrate that their popularity is increasing (both to advertising partners and, more recently, investors).

Think about it this way: if you knew you could pick up the coupon and use it at any time (even if it was limited to a certain day or something), the max peaks would not be as pronounced, and furthermore there would be people who actually don't end up using it at all. When you announce a specific time, it creates a sense of urgency and has an overall upward effect on game population.

I know.
And yet, they stopped the 1-minute Hot Times and replaced them with Hot Days.
I hope they take pity on us, and on their own laggy servers, and give us at least part of the 2x in a form we can actually enjoy. Especially now that the small servers have been merged into crowded KS-baths too Frown

But the whole 1-minute Hot Time created problems when Nexon made it so that boxes couldn't opened for an hour (ragers there), when the server couldn't handle all the people, when idiots came on at 2:25 for a Hot Time at 2:30 and then raged when they couldn't get in.

I get your point that they did change, but they did partially because 1-minute Hot Times caused significantly more problems than, I suppose "worth it," for Nexon.
What awful wording I had in this post.

Basically this.

Which brings me to another point - I wonder what the motivation behind the server merge was. Beyond the population concerns, I find it easy to believe that it made more sense for them to do this in order to create less work for their GM staff (yes, they do exist). They cut more than 5 servers, so that's sure to have an impact. It's easier event-wise, tech-wise, and all the rest as well.

I feel they did go overboard with the merges, though - GAZED is a shitfest.

You aren't kidding about GAZED. I had a friend who looked in there and ran out screaming incoherent nonsense about smegas and advertisement bots.

As for events, techs, and the rest, I imagine it will at some point be easier to manage, once they get all the bugs ironed out. Right now, they still have a hard time making sure everyone gets Hot Time boxes and events with the rest of the servers.

I think the biggest reason for the Hot Day instead of Hot Time is because the server alliances cause a lot of congestion leading to more problems than they usually get in a Hot Time.
