Diablo3 class thread
I must have missed the point of his video, but all he pretty much said was he wasn't enjoying the game and he quit. I don't really see the problem there.
Reply
Well, he said after he bought his equipments from the RMAH everything was too easy and he didn't have anything left to do so he quit.

I feel that's kinda like buying a decked out lv200 from ebay then complaining that there isn't anything to do on maple.

The funny thing with D3 is Blizzard said D3 =/= WoW, yet there's so many mechanics in WoW that are in D3, which have absolutely no reason to be there in the first place.

Enrage Timers?
Gear Checks?

Granted I don't really care for it, because the game is still in its infancy, but come on Blizz :/

How are gear checks...a WoW thing? All you're required to have is a minimal amount of DPS and survivability, and a build that actually works. That's like every RPG ever. You don't beat Pokemon with a party of level 30s (barring weird gimmicky strategies). You don't beat Final Fantasy with the gear you start out with.

Enrage timers are tricky. I think they're appropriate to have for bosses, but not elites. Bosses are much more predictable, and a soft time limit based on the boss HP and the expected amount of player DPS is fair to have. Moreover, they make the fights more interesting. Every moment you spend dodging or kiting the boss reduces the amount of time you have to attack, so you have to plan your movements carefully and decide which attacks you need to dodge and which attacks are better to absorb. I actually ran into the enrage timers for the Butcher and Belial the first couple of times around, and it took me a couple tries to get it to where I was only dodging as much as I needed to live.

This.

I do enjoy the game, i do few act III runs a day switching between build depending how i feel. I can go for OP WW tornado build for the lolz and rush it, or go full tank mode. Both are fun.

BTW i have several skull grasps in stock if anyone wants to buy them for cheap (lower than AH prices), and im also looking for helm of command, seven sins and black bone arrows plans if anyone have them.

I think d3 is still on the right track, as long as they keep patching it.

in D2,
I remember there were time when players saving skill points till they hit lv30;
I remember there were time when 100% piercing + Guided Arrow OPing
I remember there were time when 75% block used to be a standard build
I remember putting [Tir] and [El] into 2 socket sword accidentally made my jaw dropped on the desk (didn't research and totally un-expected)
w/o developing, D2 won't last that long

Indeed. People seem to forget how much share of nonsense its predecessor had, that or they have their nostalgia goggles on.

Quote:2) So, when are you going to nerf Critical Hit Chance and Critical Hit Damage affixes?

We've no plans to nerf +Crit Chance or +Crit Damage. While +Crit Chance and +Crit Damage are very strong right now, there's nothing inherently wrong with something being strong. As mentioned above, players doing too much damage is not enough reason for us to bring out the nerf bat. Neither affix is having a negative impact on build diversity (we're seeing a pretty good balance overall), and there aren't any technical issues with them being stacked to higher values. It's something we're keeping an eye on of course.

Polantaris Wrote:It was mostly the Cow Level from what I remember. But that might have changed later on in the game's life, I don't know. I haven't played it recently. Even so, you still actually beat the game. What you choose to do from there is your own decision. If you want to make your character more powerful for no reason, go right ahead. In D3 you don't even get the pleasure of beating the game before they force equipment farming.

It's challenging to repeat the same activities you know you will succeed at a thousand times over so that you can continue on with the game? How is that challenging?

I have no problem with long winded games. I played, beat, and completed Dragon Quest VII, the single longest PSX game (Over 100 hours just to beat the game, not including grinding, this is pure content, and another 100+ to beat the bonus dungeons). I have a problem with doing the SAME EXACT thing over and over and over, and seeing absolutely no change, no reward, nothing. I have absolutely no issue with long games. Hell, I've always loved long games. I hate pointless games. Inferno makes the game pointless.

Because PVP is anything but one sided, and Legendaries are going to just make the grind take that much longer, and be that much more pointless. Yay for looking forward to that.

I'm not a kid and I'm not impatient. I simply have a problem with wasting my precious few personal hours doing essentially nothing.

Biased because you took 6 years to get 200? I've been playing MapleStory since GMS was in early beta and I still do not have a Lv.200 character, and have no intense care to get one. I enjoy the game the way it is and don't waste countless hours grinding, instead doing whatever I find fun within the game. Can the game be improved? Certainly. Is it worse than Diablo 3? Not by a long shot. At least you can still do things without the perfect gear you need in D3.

To quote (for truth) a friend who I just mentioned this entire argument to:
"Not even Monster Hunter is this bad. Ragnarok Online MVP card hunting is even more worthwhile than D3 equipment farming."

PVP is going to use a matching system that should make the matches pretty even. D2 was ALL about farming for awesome elite uniques. If youre complaining about that that is coming to D3, then there is no hope for you.

I played D2X for 4 years straight. Yes, you could rush to the end, beat hell, and then it was entirely an MF fest trying to find unique gear for varying builds. D3 is different, but also the same. It causes you to do the MF'ing midgame, before allowing you to finish. It was known the game would be this way MONTHS before it came out. To complain about that is asinine. If you didnt want gearchecks and having to constantly farm gear to completely beat inferno, you should not have purchased the game.

Like saying "Hey, this is an orange, not an apple. It's going to taste like an orange, and look like an orange." Then someone coming in and bitching that it isnt an apple.

I saw that yesterday or whenever, and I'm a bit surprised to hear that Critical Mass builds aren't highly popular. I can definitely understand the technical issue with IAS though. I didn't play my Demon Hunter at all because the amount of IAS I had caused me to rubberband every time I moved after shooting unless it was 3AM.

I never said it was a "WoW" Thing. I meant that they say WoW =/= D3, yet they take stuff that's IN WoW and they implement it into D3.

Because there is collaboration between teams and their RPG design philosophy is consistent between those teams. Both games are largely about obtaining gear, and they want gear to actually matter. Moreover, they want to maximize diversity in the way players approach the game and make decisions about gearing and skill selecrion (obviously, they're not there yet). This is why Mists's talent/glyph system is derivative of Diablo 3's skill system. They've found something that works, and they might as well keep their games consistent and up to date.

You're taking a quote out of context, by the way. When Bashiok stated that D3 was not WoW, he was talking about their update release cycle. D3 doesn't have a team working on content patches with new artwork, zones, and bosses to fight, and they can't approach the endgame in the same way (release new content every couple of months, wait for people to beat it and get bored, nerf and release next content). They have to be smarter about making the existing content remain replayable and interesting. Borrowing certain working game mechanics was never mentioned.

the problem is borrowed mechanics that dont fit the genre
for instance, ARPGs shouldnt have enrage timers. its completely contradictory to the point of the game... farming phat lootz efficiently. if you wanna waste 20 mins on 1 elite pack because you suck ass at dps but have mad skillz at the 5 D's (dodge duck dip dive dodge)... whats wrong with that?? sure you could 1 shot pomegranate 2 acts earlier but kiting is damn challenging in this game with all the bullshit unavoidable damage and cc. why is blizzard telling you you cant? whats it gain them?

in wow, you either find a better party, get better gear, or wait 2 months because itll get nerfed. theres no waiting in diablo. the whole game is here. and while there are similarities in the first 2 options... the ultimate one that makes every bit of content accessible to all doesnt exist. so diablo must have a different approach for key aspects, and be extremely careful as to which mechanics they borrow so the game doesnt become big brother when its supposed to be about you and how you like to play.

I don't like enrage timers on elites, either. I like them for bosses. Boss fights don't have to be about efficiency. They just need to present a decent challenge, and enrage timers help that. They make the bosses act as gateways to the next Act or section of an Act, which is fine.

i should have specified elite pack timers. thats what the devs want you farming anyways.

i actually havent really run in to a boss enrage, my dh is kill or be killed (not run in circles, and shes had the dps to kill anything since before boss enrage timers) and my barb just walked through act 2 yesterday and i didnt happen to hit an enrage on belial w/ 27k dps (i found / was gifted a lot of his gear, bought the rest for < 100k/slot on AH... <500k weapons, i have a real nice offhand and a meh main hand). so i dont really care about boss enrages existing. whatever. they add a challenge for the people cruising their first play through. so be it.

however, my gripe with them is that (for example) kulle teleports to you and smacks you for a 1 shot. ok, he enrages... make him shoot 10x as many fireballs, those are dodgeable. maybe theyll 1 shot you too, thats fine. but dont make him teleswipe you. thats just stupid. against 10 fireballs, a dh will run out of disc, a wiz or wd will run out of cooldowns, a barb or monk cant facecheck that many... but saying "hey you have to be able to take 1 swipe of 150k before reductions and heal before the next randomly generated swipe or get x% more dps" (or however much it is)... thats pineappleing stupid. there is no skill, no quarter second warning. you cant say... pull off some epic vault/ss/tele/diamond skin/serenity/sss/sprint/leap/spirit walk and dodge the first fireball for free and keep moving for the rest of them. rakanoth has always been like this, and he was the boss i hated most on my first run through act 4 inferno. plain stupid. i had to solo it because of his tele (among other hopeless 1 shots, 1.02 mind you), and probably made my barb tank friend sad when i told him i thought i would have to solo right after we beat azmodan together.

belial is much better. he really is the best boss in the game. (hell 1 shot you even if youre properly geared on ranged, but) everything he does in phase 3 has ample warning and is avoidable through good old fashioned NES style reactions. for ranged, hes a soft dps check. and for melee, hes closer to a hard gear check. and i think thats fine personally, melee should be about damage mitigation and ranged about avoidance. and the market has matured enough that it doesnt take ridiculous amounts of farming and gold runs to pass the check for melee. the problems arise when you try to make ranged classes about mitigation, like kulle's or siegebreaker's enrage or ghom as a whole.

oh yeah they ruined siegebreaker. he was too easy because of the giant map or just how slow he is or something, but he was designed like belial in that you are given warning for his actions and arent forced into damage mitigation over avoidance. now hes a LoH/vamp check, and usually a hard dps check for ranged. if you made it to siegebreaker, more checks arent really necessary because youve already been fighting some of the hardest common/elite mobs in the game for half an act. instead, cut his casting times in half. then hes more challenging to avoid, but still well designed, and doesnt have unnecessary gear/spec checks.

there i go ranting again.

got bored of softcore, nothing else to do once i do my usual daily runs so i just started a hardcore barb, having so much fun lol. Already killed siegebreaker at lvl 26 and keep going Big Grin

Oh this game still lives. I stopped playing; summer happened and the boardwalk is addicting. Any news on PvP? I was meaning to sell all my stuff in the RMAH but cannot be bothered to patch+log.
