This new series is 80 years in the future after ozai was defeated correct? So assuming he was in his early teens and korra is slightly older, he probably lived until around 65-75 years of age? That doesn't sound very shortened for this kind of world. Meh. But yeah, he died from natural causes.

Considering that Kyoshi lived to 230 (even though she was the eldest known avatar) it wouldn't be to hard to assume that Avatars can live past 100.

Seems quite shortened, as that one Earth king lived to be over 100.

I mean you COULD include the 100 years he was trapped in ice as part of his lifespan. In that respect his life wasn't shortened very much at all for an avatar. I don't quite remember where or when the other avatar's lifespans were ever mentioned but nonetheless it's a little irrelevant. Aang is dead, korra is alive. :/

Like I said, he could also be working with him.

Plausible, but I doubt there are any benders that want to work with Amon.

I don't think Tarloc is Amon, i think the 2 of them are just opposing extremes. Tarloc is amazingly pro-bender while Amon is pro-non-bender.
Also Amon is masked and mysterious, a deadly threat through violence, while Tarloc is a councilman and a public figure who uses non-violent means but can be just as deadly and evil.

I like that there are 2 villains, i would be rather disappointed if Tarloc DID turn out to be Amon because i think the idea of having 2 completely opposite villains surrounding Korra and her allies on both sides makes the situation more dangerous.

Now about the episode:

Such an awesome episode, the new team avatar is kick ass, and i love Asami, she's quickly become one of the coolest characters.
I always get the creeps when they talk about BloodBending. the fact it can only be done during a full moon makes it even creepier for some reason. i loved the episode where Bloodbending was introduced in the original series, the way Katara broke down at the end, it was such a dark and unexpected turn in the story. Having bloodbending back and used by a more prominent villain is awesome. I wonder what it is about Tarloc that makes him so powerful, it's strange.

Plausible that the guy in the flashback is Amon? Having had his bending removed by Aang, he would consider benders as "oppressive" to him (benders took away his misused bending) and become a psycho set on making everyone like him. Would also make sense of how he knows energy bending as he would have been a bender prior to only knowing energy bending.

Really nice episode. I think I like the tension between Tarrloc and Korra more than Amon and Korra. Excited for next week to see if Mako/Bolin/Asami will do anything to escape prison and where Tarrloc leaves Korra.

Really like Asami now. She's such a badass. Although I think they foreshadowed some tension between her and Korra with the fact she knows Korra's feelings for Mako and how she witnessed him being a gentleman to her in the car. I hope she stays on their side though and it's only a minor feud.

 Conjecture

Tarloc has a shard of the sacred jewel/Kon is involved somehow.
Then when Korra can finally interact with the spirit world, Kon will pop up somehow and drop the reveal of her that Tarloc and him made a deal.
Then she kicks both their asses.

Sucks I wont be able to keep up with this series while deployed. It's still building up, but it's going at a pretty good pace. So long as Amon's plot doesn't get too strong, and he ends up writing the writers into a wall.

none of the avatars before aang could, but kyoshi and roku was pretty strong.

EDIT: if im not wrong, they were able to bend lava while fire benders/earth benders couldnt because they need both abilities to do so.. i clearly remember roku and kyoshi bending lava. i guess thats an edge but idk if korra, knows how... I also dont remember aang lava-bending :| he only cooled the lava down with airbending iirc.

I wouldn't say she got screwed because she didn't use her head. She would have won if Tarloc couldn't Bloodbend, which was completely unexpected and there was no possible way she could have known that he would have that ability, especially not during a full moon.

Now if she had won, how would she have explained all the damage and the death/disappearance of Tarloc? That's another question altogether. In that regard she definitely wasn't using her head.

In regards to her lack of a spiritual side and inability to Airbend...I suspect where she is going she's going to have a lot of time to meditate, which is what Tenzin told her to do in the first place and she ignored.

I wouldn't be surprised if Tarloc is Amon's general, though, if he's not Amon. Although, just because Amon has white hands doesn't mean much...if he is indeed Amon they would find a way to easily explain that. In one way or another I suspect Tarloc will have some relation to Amon.

There's no way Korra would be able to deal with Kon. She's far too emotional.

 Conjecture v.2

Amon is an Airbender.Think,
Korra is terrible at airbending, and airbending is being shown as being attuned to the spirit. Aang naturally started out as an airbender, and learned how to bend the other three disciplines. Just as each school has their own special techniques (earth=metal, fire=lightning, water/ice=blood). T'would explain how Aang wasn't in the Avatar mode while he spiritbent Ozai, since it was already within his natural ability to spiritbend once taught. It takes time to develop a secondary bending in a school outside of your native one (ala Aang as an adult bloodbending in that flashback.
So, with that train of thought, because Tarloc can bloodbend without a full moon, he must have a lot of power as a bender, and his age would work for that seeing as how Korra needed the moon, as well as that old woman, both of whom were not in their prime. Then, because Amon can spiritbend, he must have been born an airbender; it would explain why he wears a mask and a hood, to hide any tattoo he might have.
