I got the thornmail first because I was getting killed easily, and in the last 5 minutes I had close to 3k gold so I just bought the guardian armor thing so I would stop being so squishy.
Does anybody have a guide for the skill building tree thing? Is it subject to specific champions?
Go to the solomid guide website raizoo posted. Look for your champion + recent updated ones or by any of these people

- the rain man
- chaox
- xspecial
Probably some other names i'm missing. I know chaox has an ashe guide so follow that. Each AD carry builds differently but more or less they're the same (like 90-95% overlap/similarity). As for squishyness, you can't really get rid of that trait. AD carry can be thought of as a glass cannon. At early game (so first 20min usually), you are not usually aggressive. You just farm minions for gold (last hit). During mid and late game, you get incredibly strong but you're squishy. You hide behind tanks and do all the damage from behind them. They can take all the hits while you focus on the enemy. It's best to play passively until you learn more things.
If you don't like being squishy, then you can play a bruiser (maplestory equivalent is a hero) or a tank (maplestory equivalent is a paladin). A lot of tanks have tons and tons of HP and def and skills that help replenish their HP or give them more def. Your damage is almost always crap though but you're just supposed to take damage and provide support so your AD carries (DPS) can kill everyone. Even though you're tanky, you can still take a lot of damage from AD carrys as in late game they'll start building items with armor penetration or %hp damage (maplestory equivalent is ignore def)
It just takes a lot of practice. You'll start to learn what is a good idea and what is a bad idea.
Edit: Here's the ashe guide:
http://solomid.net/guides.php?g=17118
Ignore the runes
Just get heal + ghost until you're level 12 and unlock flash
Add the offense mastery tree. Like kajita above me said, you can adjust that at any time so don't worry
Follow the skill point build and learn how they work
When you get really comfortable with ashe and you get more knowledge about the game, then try some new champs/roles. Again, play with friends/SP people as it'll help you immensely and you'll have a lot more fun.
