The Legend of Korra
It would also make them more awesome if they were like magneto and could rip Iron from people's bodies xD

But I mean, they're literally covered in metal armor for their uniforms, you'd think they'd have like metal ninja stars or Sokka boomerangs to bend at high speeds or wolverine claws or swords or something o_O

Considering they're a police force and not a murder squad metal wires are really the best solution. They have massive range and impeccable accuracy, bind people rather than kill them (police), and they allow for extreme agility. I mean look at Lin in that last episode, she was everywhere in no time. Could Toph (as of AtLA) get on top on that dome so quickly with her metalbending? I agree that in a war Toph's tank-like slow but unstoppable style of bending is more effective, but the wires exist because the form has adapted to meet modern requirements. Once again, throwing metal at people won't help to detain them.

Throwing metal cages or metal chunks that they bend into something to detain them would though.

Metal cages would be rather unwieldy, and still wouldn't have the transport aspect of the cables.

Lin still has the metal disc on her back that she's never used. I'm sure she throws that.

If she was a real bender -coughliketoph- She could of made a suit of metal and never of gotten shocked by that person. CoughGoggleemoticon

Apparently you don't know how metal and electricity interact. She was already wearing a metal suit. She needed to have a rock suit.

Another reason why the police force should be bending both earth and metal while doing their jobs. They should wear rubber suits under their metal armor XDD

They probably will now that they know equalists wield electric weaponry.

Those disks are the coils of wire. It's where the wire from her wrists come from. All the metalbending police have them (noticeable in episode 1). Anyway I think the reason why the police are only using wires and the like is for the same reason they arrested Korra in episode 1. Bending earth and metal around the city would cause structural damage that would have to be paid for. It's not like in The Last Airbender, where structural damage would count towards collateral and therefore less of an issue due to wartime measures. It's been proven that there's most definitely a lot of bureaucracy in place in Republic City.

Fixing structural damage shouldn't be that difficult if you are a pro metal/earth bender. "Oh, the road is destroyed...well here's a new one." Even if some buildings were lost, just get a good engineer in there that can bend and problem solved.
Reply
Sure the materials are there, but it's the industrial age; it's all about money. Paying for workers to fix things, paying to get the materials shipped in.
Reply
Also the fact that a police chasing a criminal isn't going to stop to fix a road. And what happens when there's wood involved? Bending can't fix wood, which many buildings are made from.

Seems mostly metal to me.

Speaking of wood, i'm surprised water benders haven't developed wood bending in the 80 years since the swamp and blood benders.

TBH katara only used blood bending once, I was hoping she taught that to korra and she did that to amon that would of been funny. :l I guess we still have to wait. Oh and also about the metal, yeah I failed on that part. Metal wires seem legit + that's the only way they can get attacked by lighting cause they can't stop them from bending lol.

Well i didn't expect blood bending to be carried on past katara because she saw it as a great evil. My point was simply that water bending is really versatile and also limited, but wood bending would make "water" more available without sucking the water out of everything.

I would love to see more sand benders other than those from The Legend of Aang.

Yes, those are my favorite benders along with the other Earth bending branches.
