Dude, we don't know how strong Amon is. Heck he could pull an Azula and WHAM I'M GONNA KILL YOU when Korra charging up.
Only if you don't edit. :/
Spoiler
It really doesn't matter how strong he is. Outside of using guns or something cheap, a non-bender just doesn't have the strength to bring it down even with his posse of chi-blockers. They can't bind it like they did in the last episode because the avatar state is too powerful for that (a la wind/fire/water/earth barrier) and they can't surprise attack it while she charges up because they don't have the range that benders do through their bending to actually hurt/kill it. This is even assuming korra would be stupid enough to whip out the avatar state at all to begin with.
Killing the avatar to ensure bending is ultimately gone from the world forever is a good theory, but it just can't happen.

Sounds like something cheap. :/ I doubt we won't see avatar state at all this season but at the same time i doubt it'll be in a situation other than training to activate it or in the final battle where amon (or some other villain on another level than amon) naturally loses.

Is there anything about nonbenders being able to redirect lightning by any chance?
I mean, it is a possibility. Mako>>>>Amon>>>Korra>>>crap.
I thought it was implied at the end of Book 2 it was somewhat common knowledge, when Azula zapped Aang the second he went into the Avatar state and they went back home bragging to've killed the Avatar, with no mention of worrying about him being reborn into the Water Tribe.
Spoiler
They had no reason to care. They knew that the new Avatar would never be more than a baby when Sozin's Comet arrived. They could have easily added the North + South Poles into their invasion plans if they still thought the Avatar was dead at that point, but since the Invasion happened before that, they knew the Avatar still lived.

Except we don't know that Amon isn't a bender. He's leading Non-Benders, but that doesn't mean it's not pure manipulation to get what he wants. In fact, the fact that he's Energybending nearly implies that he is a bender, just hiding it (Though that statement is just me speculating). The Non-Benders are just too oblivious to what Energybending is to know better. Considering when the Avatar State is first unlocked, the Avatar is also very vulnerable, he could easily be waiting for that moment to strike with a well placed lightning bolt much like Azula did.
Remember that the only reason Aang survived Azula's attack is because Katara's mystical water saved him. In fact, it was speculated for a long time between Season 2's finale to Season 3's that the Avatar Cycle was indeed broken because Aang did die momentarily (Noted by his spiritual self falling to the planet right after Aang was hit). It was believed for a while that he had lost the ability to enter the Avatar State and that the Avatar Cycle was broken by Azula, even though Aang was revived.

I severely doubt it unless the theory about amon actually being a bender is true and in that exact situation, where his first use of bending is to redirect lightning at korra, the shock value would be enormous. The point in such a thing (killing the avatar with redirected lightning) for the writers would be nothing other than to end the avatar series forever though right? I don't see the point in killing the avatar line.

I mean obviously Korra is not going to die. Obviously some Katara-water-healing-bs is gonna happen and she's gonna revive.
We can agree on the fact that the good guys will win and no one is gonna die.

This.
I was looking for screencaps correlating to this. A friend of mine always threw a huge fuss because the Avatar Cycle was shown to be broken at this point, and it doesn't come back until the very end of the series, when it shows the scene of him with all of the past avatars lighting up one by one behind him. The connection to all of the past avatars was cut off when he "died," which I guess was displayed by the same scene at the time, but with all of the past Avatars disappearing/darkening behind him. I can't find it anywhere though and my friend might have just been crazy, but he always made a huge fuss about how the story was "incorrect" when Aang is seeking the advice of all of the past avatars on how to deal with Ozai without killing him, because at the time, the cycle was still broken.

I don't have a screencap of it, but just download/watch the last episode of Season 2, and last about the last 5-10 minutes.
Spoiler
Honestly though, since the past lives of the Avatar are supposed to be part of his Spirit, I don't see a big issue with him being able to talk to the other Avatars, since they're supposed to be a part of him.
Buh, yeah I was having a hard time finding it. The copyright watermarks in the sound result in all of the youtube videos being horribly...awful.
Spoiler
Linked to direct times; http://youtu.be/CnjkA75GSwE?t=4m22s Aang "dies" and the Avatar State/cycle is lost. (Although I guess it actually doesn't show the past avatars disappearing, confirmation: friend is crazy.)
Azula and the rest of the Fire Nation had every right to believe the cycle had been broken if that fact was known, regardless of whether or not Sozin's Comet was coming. Zuko, however, knew about Katara's water because she tried to heal his scar with it, so he knew that Aang probably survived. Remember how pissed off Ozai was when Zuko confronted him during the invasion and told him the Avatar was actually still alive? When they were searching for the Avatar and offering a hefty reward for him, they did not want him dead because he would be reborn and they'd have to start the search all over.
I just noticed; chi-blocking somewhat derived from Ty Lee's and the Kyoshi Warrior's style right?
Could they be the ones who "accidently" started this group or something?
I remembered Avatar Kyoshi taught the Da Li and yeah...

Pretty much. Ty Lee joining the Kyoshi Warriors probably made her Chi-Blocking style more popular/known, and as a result more people knew about it.
It's the same with the Metal-bending Police Officers and Toph.
I'm not a huge fan of romance episodes this early, but I'm glad it's out of the way. It's kinda cliched with the whole love triangle thing. Seeing Mako & Korra kiss and Bolin witnessing it wasn't a bit surprise. I did laugh at Bolin's reaction to it out loud even though I was suppose to feel sad.

To be fair, this is half way through the series.
