Tales of Graces F
Okay, I think I'm done... Barely anything left to do. Accomplished more than I planned on, and there's only one thing I wanted to accomplish but couldn't manage. Feel very satisfied, yet sad that it's over. I wish more games could draw me in so thoroughly for so long.

------
 My Statistics
-----------

Things left that I could do:

Get four remaining Attribute titles for Hubert, Malik, Cheria and Richard (no idea how far away I am yet, but I must be close-ish)
Perfect win Hard Mode on Carta mini-game for Cheria's Vesperia costume title (I tried so hard to get this, I really did...feels terrible ;_Wink
Max Eleth Mixer's slots from 11->16 (no way in hell I'm doing this, it is the legendary grind...and pointless besides)
Dualize/Upgrade weapon and/or armor to +99 (again, not even considering this...I have all +1 to +5 gear, and that's more than enough)
Perfect my Max Combo from 885 to 999 (considering doing this, maybe I will yet)

----

All in all, I'm very content. My 2nd playthrough I played almost exclusively on Chaos mode (save for a couple bosses), and I've since defeated most of the end-game bosses on Chaos, too. I rolled Fodra Queen soooo hard my second time around (I was lv200 with my finalized gear already lol). Lambda Theos and Solomus are insane, though. Gentleman and the Cameo team are such pushovers.

Sigh... That horrible bittersweet feel when you finally complete a game to the point where there's next to nothing left to do. So fun...and then it's all over. I wish Tales of Xillia would hurry and come out now!

Glad to hear you're enjoying the game so much Felix, but I disagree, Asbel's Assault Artes are great. His C. ATK stat is significantly larger (Disintegrator has 200 more base C. ATK than P. ATK and he gets 90 more C. ATK from titles than P. ATK) so it makes his Burst Artes stupidly strong through. Incineration Wave is basically all he needs to succeed, but his Assault Artes are amazing for pinning.
To get the Carta game, take a picture of the cards right when the game starts, and press pause. Then when the quote is read, pause and look up who the character is, and check where it is in your picture so you know where to move your cursor. The AI is nearly impossible to legitimately beat (literally). In the JP Version, you could pause to see the card layout, but I think it was harder because I got this done in two tries over here, and it took me a while originally.

Have you finished all the Trials of Graces? When I unlocked the final one in the JP version, I went in, died in 10 seconds, pissed myself, and never went back. You could try a game with all the same character too in the future. Those are entertaining to some degree. I'm gonna try an all Cheria run when I get my JP version back.

Borrowed the game from a friend while he was out of town to try and do a quick run-through. I was inside Rockgagong and one random encounter before the parasite boss I unlocked Chaos mode ._. so I ended up grinding quite a few battles there to be able to win, since that fight is pretty hard if you're unlucky and they all split in four directions to chase down each party member. Ended up getting to Kurt and having to stop because he's just plain too hard and I'm out of time to get better stuff. I've maxed almost all my titles that I have at this point, and can only get very few more, namely Adept titles. The idea was to get some decent Vitality Shards, and just improve the base stats of my armor. I can't seem to time my quick-step around his normal slashes consistently, and even if I could, my other party members would just stand there and eat his 7k shot because they decay their guard waiting for it. Battle would be almost doable if there weren't any other monsters. Every other boss was challenging but still fun, but the damage he does is just too insane for me to last long enough to call this fun. I was sorta disappointed fighting the boar outside Amarcian Enclave though because I brought it down to 1k HP with a Full Weak Ruby Inferno + Mystic Arte 20% Damage title, and it killed two party members after the BC ended when I moved in to finish it off wtp and I just decided I didn't want to redo that battle just to get such a strong combo to chip off such a large amount of health.

That being said, I wish Kurt was one of the Zhonecage bosses. Get rid of the chicken or something and put someone CHALLENGING in there.

Also, not to be a killjoy, but Xillia has nowhere near the amount of replayability, IMO. It's pretty easy to get to 99 and unlock everything. Only thing you'd replay for is the other main character's side of the story, and maybe a high difficulty replay. I'm one of the few people hoping for a Director's Cut I think. Because despite how bad that would be, validating their ability to rehash everything for profit, I want more in Xillia ._.

I don't get it. I like Asbel's A-Artes as far as alters go, but that's really it. Burial Blade and Void Sword are awesome as hell, but if I try using them from strictly other A-Artes, it's just a waste of CC or I'll get interrupted before completion. Concussive Bolt (best arte in the game) alters into Burial Blade (other best arte in the game!), so it's really all I have to spam for most situations. CB is hard to interrupt, has AoE, has a quick-strike double use and inflicts Para damage which is surprisingly effective against a number of enemies that matter. Burial Blade is just crazy. Fast, auto-targets from any distance and is accessible from CB. Infernal Torrent is good for some situations, but its real use is a quick chain (via alter) into Void Sword. I found it much more efficient than going through the full A-Arte branch. About the only time I would consider using solely A-Artes is when something has crazy CDEF (like Reala). And don't even get me started on some of the absolute trash A-Artes, like Heaven's Wrath (what the actual HELL, mastering that was a nightmare).

I saw you mention Incineration Wave once before in this thread, back before I had it. So I was excited when I did unlock it. But you need to explain it to me. I mean, sure, it's a great B-Arte with amazing range utility...but it costs too much CC and isn't a good spamming move. It also leaves you kinda vulnerable if you get close with it. Why is it all you need? I definitely couldn't use only it. In fact, I even stopped using it after I mastered it, save for the rare need for that range sniping on Asbel.

I'd be a lot more inclined to do more playthroughs if I could carry over Gear and Inn Requests. I don't mind redoing Skits/Sidequests, every time...but Inn Requests and re-equiping really kills me. And I have to. It just doesn't feel right otherwise.

I haven't cleared that Solomus + three dragon Trial (I have little doubts that's the one you mean). I haven't attempted it seriously again after finishing my characters, but I did try it once before...and I kinda wet myself. Maybe I should give that a go, though I don't see myself winning, even now. I can't believe they want anyone to fight those four TOGETHER, in that crap arena. Sadists.

I agree with you on Kurt. I really wish he had been in the Zhonecage instead of Cedric (they could have used the same retarded explanation for either of them, really). I want to be able to fight him whenever I want. I hate that one of the hardest bosses in the game is a one-shot, story boss. How cruel! At least the other hard bosses in the game can be fought basically any number of times. Don't remove the chicken bros!! How could you? How would I Gald farm without my chickens? I have 1366 of them defeated in my Monster Book. LOL

I hope Xillia isn't disappointing... I haven't watched/read much on it, but it looks great. I hope it's not...too lacking compared to the usual Tales experience. I wish we could have gotten the PS3 version of Vesperia here. Stupid frickin' Microsoft.

Planning doing a few more playthroughs than Felix, because I did things slower and didn't grind at all on my first playthrough. This (second) playthrough I was working on getting the usage titles while just going through the game normally, but I was still missing a lot of them by the end of the Future Arc, which is coincidentally when I finally unlocked the Striking Manual. Wish I had known that existed and that it was so easy to get before I did all of Cheria's and Malik's A-artes >.>

Accomplished so far on the second playthrough:
-Most of the titles (and all of the usage ones), save for the level 200 one and a few combat-related ones (damn you, Quad Smasher)
-All the imitation titles
-9999 Eleth Mixer (just hit 14 slots, too)
-Most of the Inn requests (goddamn there's a lot of them. Still have a few to go, but I'll finish it before the end)
-Filled the dualize book (well, almost. I'll have filled it soon. I got my S-gem while grinding usage. It's pretty)

I was rolling straight Chaos with few/no issues until Lambda, who just did far too much damage for me to handle. Been playing on Evil since. I thought the Fodra Queen would destroy me on Evil, but it really wasn't that bad (probably because of all the title grinding I had just done). The EXP/Gald bonus for Blue Earth is wtpomghax. I'm working on finishing the Zhonecage (on floor 8), and Evil hasn't been a problem for me so far, but I suspect it will be on Solomus. Once I finish the Zhonecage and get all the rare craftables, I'll head to playthrough three. Three might be kind of boring, since the main point of it will be to get Sophie's Skit title and finish up any remaining odd titles I'm missing. I'm hoping that'll net me enough grade to start off the last playthrough with all skills learned.

Pascal has lately been my character of choice. So fun to play as. On an unrelated note, I need to see how it is that people can solo Chaos Veigue like... at all, let alone at a low level. I must be missing some sort of fundamental knowledge of how that works, because I had trouble soloing him on Easy around level 70ish (on my second playthrough). When I went in there at a higher difficulty on accident, he just didn't stagger and killed me in three swings.

For the Carta minigame, it turns out that it's actually pretty easy if you go in there with *exactly* 25 cards, that way the same 25 cards always show and you don't have to memorize as much. It helped me even further that I had actually played most of the games of the characters I had cards of. Even then, I couldn't get a perfect on Hard normally, however, doing that pause trick to have time to think about the quote and where the card was ended up being enough to get him in a try or two. Why is the Rita costume song so terrible? There's plenty of good music in Vesperia, but all of the ones they brought to Graces don't make for good battle music at all.

Anyway, I have about 190 hours in it so far, and I'm looking forward to a bunch more. I wonder who I should spend my time on next playthrough...

Quad Smasher is a quick and easy title to fill in for everyone. Just head to Lhant Hill, disable everyone else/solo and use an AoE of choice on the stupid mobs there that are large and love to group together for OHKOs. That's how I got the Quads I was missing. Only took a few minutes.

Incineration Wave has always just done retarded amounts of damage for me, and it or Phantasm Flash are my choices for Nova monsters. I just use one Incineration Wave, and then guard up another Red Aura, or use two if I need to approach and then switch to another arte. End-game, I've never really had an issue with CC. It wasn't a problem to just spam Incineration Wave to victory if I wanted to, but that's boring and easy. Heaven's Wrath and Demon Fist are the only trash A-artes.

For Veigue, as Asbel, Incineration Wave actually just wrecks him since you can always stay so far back. If he approaches too close, Gale Maw through him, or keep your distance with Demon Fang if Incineration Wave is too slow. If you're willing to fight up close, Infernal Torrent has massive damage hitting Burn and Human. If you're not staggering him, you need more accuracy. If you can manage to hit a weak-point, any following attacks should have 100% accuracy I think.

Pascal vs Veigue is just silly with Pyrogenic Ring... The only real problems are surviving his Celsius Caliber.

I pretty much finished everything in Graces F other than the trials and the remaining 3 or 4 weapon upgrades (the ones that require orbs from Zhonecage). I've got like, 3 of the weak weapons to +99 and upgraded them into the stronger form, just gave up on doing the same for the others.

My second playthrough is nearly over. Finished all the (goddam motherpineappleing) inn requests, got my level 200 title, beat lots of new-ish bosses, the lot. So I decided to have a go at the only trial I hadn't finished: Super Dragon Force 4. It took a few tries and messing with my setup, but I finally got 'em down! Pinapple you, Solomus. Guess who has a shiny new Reinforce Shard? This guy.

Oh hey, I seem to be missing quite a few dragons in my monster book. Anyone know who they are? I know that's rather nondescript, but I have a feeling I don't need to say much more.

JoeTang Wrote:Veigue
I was really hoping it was more interesting than that. Some kind of fancy footwork, using a couple well-strung A and B artes at the right time, evading like a god, that sort of thing.

Dragons? If I had to guess, I'd say you're probably missing the two rare spawn dragons from the Future Arc? Brightwing Wyvern sometimes spawns in the tree mobs walking around Region 13 (F. arc only). He also has a Soul Orb (have fun) and a unique 50% (or 100% with Grade Shop) drop rate of Kaiser Rapiers. lol The other one rarely spawns inside Lastalia Shaft (Depths) mobs, though unless you avoided everything in there you probably would have ran into one.

I can always check quick if you wanna get more exact answers, though. Provided which ones you already have.

Asbel and Pascal's second item stealing titles have even DUMBER names than Sophie's... Like Thievinator and Robberator, if I remember right. Asbel's was a pain to get. They just HAD to make his thieving moves his WORST A-Artes. They did that on purpose. I actually forced the AI to use only them while I played as someone else. haha Legendary Wyverns are great because they have a 100% steal rate of Life Bottles. Made it a bit less painful.

I spent overly too much time in F. Arc Region 13. An optional area. Yet so useful...

I had gotten the impression that I was missing more than one because it only said 93.3%, but there's so few dragon's that you already answered my question. Thanks!

I finished the Quad titles, the Shopping titles, and got all the stamps, then went about 2 minutes into my new childhood arc. What's the point of those special-quality weapons that you get from most places at level 11? It doesn't make the item any better. At all. Are they possibly for the collection of qualities you can't otherwise get on the first playthrough?

Other than for the completion deal...
When you dualize a lower rank Quality Shard into a weapon with a higher rank Quality, the lower rank should replace the higher rank. Thus, you can build the item with any Quality combination you have available instead of trying to work your way up from what the default is. i.e. you can start off with some high bonus Rank 6, or if Rank 7 Qualities exist on Shards (can't recall if they're available), you can stick it onto the weapon instead of starting off at shitty whatever the default is. This is particularly useful because it only requires two Dualizes to get from Rank 7 back to Rank 7 immediately, assuming you have each shard available, as opposed to working your way up from Rank 1 to something higher for the first try, etc. In theory, you would be able to achieve a +99 Pointless Long Sword 1018 P. ATK, 1046 C. ATK, 1008 ACC, base before turning it into a Disintegrator. The same being done with a Keen Short Sword would require you to dualize up to a Rank 7 first, which would make it quite a bit weaker.

Whelp. I know what part of Aselia Wiki I'll be working on this afternoon.

Doesn't that strategy assume that you have an infinite number of whatever quality of shard you want at the ready? That's probably not the case when you're just running through the game, even in a NG+. I do get your point though.

By the way, how do you get dualize pointless? From what I could tell, the 9-letter words are made with certain combinations, and instead of which 9-letter word you get being based on the words that made it, they're instead based on the level of shard that made it. So you'd need a Star shard to dualize a pointless quality item, right? Or am I completely off?

I think you need to dualize a Zhonecage weapon with a star shard. http://aselia.wikia.com/wiki/ToG_-_Quality I've updated this will all the Rank 6 combinations.

How do you even get star shards? Best I've seen drop is level 8s on various Zhonecage fights. I also got a level 9 reinforce for beating the last Trials, but you can only get that once.

Good work on the Wiki by the way.

It's speculated that it's possible to get in Chaos fights, though I can't confirm personally. Evil allows up to Rank 9.

Oh, totally unrelated question. When you dualize weapons a bunch, you can sometimes increase their minimum and maximum CC. According to various in-game tips, it says that it's "related to tempering boost", and also that it's "based on the value of your weapon". From what I could tell, focusing on using a high tempering boost quality seemed to increase maximum CC quite often, while using the 6 and 7-letter qualities (which tend to add more inheritence) seemed to increase minimum CC more often. Either way, this is all speculation based on my own observations, so if you know more that'd be wonderful.

There's not a lot of information about it that I can find, but what you've found seems to be the correct trend though nothing noting anything about inheritance.
http://www23.atwiki.jp/talesofgracesf/pages/116.html

There's a chart here describing the minimum and maximum CC achieved on almost every weapon when getting it to +99 with Perilous (which has the highest inheritance, could be related) and Guyabulous, and the number of Guyabulous Shards required to get that bonus. Judging by the results, it would seem that the weapon's "rank" determines how much of a bonus is possible. i.e. a Long Sword has base 5~7, and can achieve 9~19, an increase of 4~12, whereas the Disintegrator has base 9~20 and can only reach 13~22, an increase of 4~2. Again, I'm not too sure on the specifics of this. I would imagine that Tempering Bonus sums up to assist in the increase of CC though.
It states in red that in the case of Guyabulous, it was required for the Tempering Bonus to reach +30 (?) before minimum CC increased.

Is the "Min CC" and "Max CC" fixed as per weapon basis? As in, will a Long Sword ALWAYS achieve 9~19 when maxed out, or is that the theoretical highest it can achieve if RNG likes you?

No idea, but there's not much point in getting it too high since there's a cap on the CC a character can have.
