I have no idea of who they are and why they play on EU west.
But i am from europe and i have tried to play on the US servers multiple times, i have experienced the ping difference.
It is annoying and can screw with you if you're used to playing without such a high ping.
I play with a ping of 35~45 averagely when playing on EU and the few times i played on the US servers it was swinging from 150 to 200~, which made it so annoying to play i couldn't stand it.
When i play, i get used to a certain delay and i remember that and use that, if there's a new delay it can pineapple with me massively.

Some teams in DotA play on high ping servers to be used to high ping if they're required to play on a different server than they're used to in an online tournament.

Team SoloMid. Look at the North American Circuit standings. They're playing on EU West because it apparently has a higher competition.

Hmm, i'll try it on the US server. I haven't noticed any lag or delay at all on EU West, so who knows
