GMS - 6 million players

As I was searching for press releases in school, I was bored and decided to do something about Maplestory. Anyways, I found an article about Pirates. Not really interesting, and most of you know the information in there.

However, what struck me is that we finally have an updated number from the 3 million a year or so back.

Eh, it's not that interesting, but at least we now have an updated number.

Sure, it's an updated number but it has no value because there's not enough information...

- Is that based on accounts? If that's true, you can probably divide that number by 2 or 3.
- Is that based on characters? If that's true, you can divide by way more.
- Since they don't delete inactive accounts, how many of those are inactive?

It's likely that that figure doesn't take any of the above into account, so the "real" number is probably much smaller.

Time to start headcounting to predict the number of NX-boycotting players we need on average to make a dent in Nexon profits. Agree with psychopat though - most likely divide by more than 2 or 3 if based on accounts. I wonder how many they'd find if they counted IP addresses. Multiple computers per player, but also multiple players per computer.

I agree, I know alot of my friends abused the 'Refer a friend' system by creating multiple accounts to grab in the NX.
pfft cheaters...

I remember when GMS hit 500,000. That was what, almost 2 or 3 years ago? When Wizet was still around...

And obviously, they couldn't blatantly say "Make a new empty account and receive 5000 MPts!"

I had 6-8 accounts before the refer a friend event. =P

That's exactly why I thought they didnt have a problem with people abusing it: Because it was padding their stats. "losing" some cash here and there to players making chars over and over is nothing compared to the big 6 mill user mark that could get them more advertising money and whatnot.

Also, besides, those who abused the event actually did level all 15 mules for all their accounts? It's only gonna last for so long...

I remember the GM Blog from 2 years ago saying that they had 3 million registered users. It's amazing that that number has doubled since then. Then again, a good majority aren't even active.
