Most of the ways people use the term "common sense" is stupid to begin with. It's usually distorted so when people use it, it just seems to be an excuse for lack of communication.

"You didn't know x? You should know, because IT'S COMMON SENSE." "Why did you do that? It's common sense not to do it! I shouldn't just tell you not to do it, you already should know because it's common sense!"

Most of the time it's not so much common sense, but a reason to call out someone else because they don't know something you do. Besides, if there really is "common sense," why is everyone and their mother complaining that it's not common?
