Got accepted to Nexon focus group 2/21 <-- Note This Is In The Past
Eos Wrote:It doesn't however change the fact they're not competing with themselves; Whichever one you play, they're still making any money off you they're going to make. Your point failed.
They compete for players in that people can choose which to play in. If the wrong people pick the wrong version, it could hurt them. For example, what if all the people with brains in GMS left and started playing in KMS? Quality of play in GMS would likely decline, and if it reaches a critical point the playerbase could collapse and move to greener pastures. Obviously Nexon doesn't want that to happen to any region.

It stands to reason that the existence of KMS does allow for GMS to lose players to it. It doesn't have to be intentional competition.

Leaves Wrote:That being said, I am sure that the %age of users we're talking about here is basically negligible, seeing as there are multiple, complex hurdles to jump through should one wish to play KMS. It's not something that the average Maple noob could do.
Yeah, this is the reason why it's not a pressing concern for GMS. However, other (worse) regions collapsing to come to GMS is a very real threat because the bar to entry is lower.

Aha, that must be Nexon's strategy! Make GMS so bad that EMS, TMS, and whatever else they've crapped out wouldn't bother jumping ship to come to GMS.

Because GMS is known for it's vast expanses of highly intelligent players, as is Maplestory and F2P games in general?

They don't give a damn. They have IP blocks and other failsafes in place to stop the vast majority of pretense of choice, plus language barriers and distance.
It's not even in their top 50, if not 500, concerns.

They have far more risk of someone wandering off playing a private server than they ever need to worry about incentive to play GMS over one of the other franchises.
It's not having what you want - It's wanting what you've got.

If kMS already has an effective secondary authentication process, gMS needs to copy-paste the functionality, and just drop the PIN/PIC system altogether (or make it an opt-in service for people who don't realize it's completely pineappleing worthless for security).

Even if they emailed it instead of a text message, that extra layer of actual security would be nice for, you know, actually securing your account.

Its not even about competition its more so getting new player base. If you were to ask anyone to describe GMS just about every negative comment in the book could be thrown at nexon. Whats the point investing time/money into a game where ull just get hacked/wrongfully banned/laughed for trying to play legit/ectect.

The only reason I still play GMS is because it's in English and I wouldn't want to restart from zero again.

This is probably true for most of us. I would never play a game I couldn't understand anything in except for the most basic of stuff. Nor would I start over.

Not playing kMS, because it's in Korean, but more so because it requires KSSN.

Not playing eMS, because it's in as bad state as gMS (if not worse in some aspects), behind gMS in updates and because of certain nationalities that cannot speak english, not to mention 9-12 years old Finns.

However I don't really have much interest for maple in general, with current progress. And I'm not even talking about hackers or Nexon here. It's simply that it seems Nexon/Wizet ran out of ideas. Maple would need something fresh and big to get me interested for longer than that 2-4 weeks after each big update.

I don't have a KSSN either.
Last time I checked, Leafre's got more than 100 KSSN's.

...For your argument to make an even ounce of sense it has to be a problem. As raul has said below;

Divide let's give you the benefit of the doubt and say meh 500 players. Divide it by just the total in GMS. I'm pretty sure you'll see that your argument has no ground to stand on.

A small price huh? I'm pretty sure KMS gamebreaking, I repeat, KMS' GAMEBREAKING installment of cubes makes that server no less dependent than our server. Now let's just cut off communication and difficulty to loot. How are you going to make money again?

Not to mention when GMS gets hacked we at worse lose our emails while KMS lost 13 million KSSN's.

I don't remember mentioning anything about money...? All I said was server stability. Not economic stability. Though if you want to argue economic stability I still have the upper hand.

Issue is that people with U-OTP have still been hacked by extremely determined hackers.

accidental double post.

You're seeing what you want to see then. Lag isn't something that causes an inconvinience, it can completely destroy your gameplay. Looting, which leads to money, which leads to efficiency will be greatly affected. "overall better user experience", that was after an and thus being a seperate idea/bullet what have you. So you are talking about, I assume community/bossing which most players wouldn't be able to take part in, probably be attacked in. So the community overall would not be better, you'd be weaker than you would be in the GMS version, and wouldn't be able to communicate like the GMS version which was my and everyone else's point. Lag is just another subject all together.

This isn't directed at you but it seems a lot of KMS players live in this fantasy that their version is some form of Utopia and it's as if you try to cross examine the regions, like as if, only the KMS version is the only working maplestory version. It's rather ridiculous considering it was KMS that broke the game with these ridiculous cubes, it's kms that seems to be holding the other versions hostage, and it's kms that receives the biggest reppercussions if ever hacked into. Most of the complains that gms vs kms has is "permanent NX", "better community" and well that's all I really see nowadays. The thing is though, the nx that's permanent is for stupid things such as clothes, the real pocket cleaners are cubes, protection scrolls and smega's. Those are used items so that point is moot, and things like perma pets are abused anyway. This leads to the community difference which frankly is based on culture. Are you going to tell me Korea's culture is better than ours? Good luck with that.

I believe you have 500 ms delay from looting confused with game-crippling lag. It only affects looting (solved by buying a pet, which the majority of people do in gMS and kMS do) and potting (also solved by buying a pet, but it's not so bad manually as looting is).

And being weaker is fine with me, and most other people, but we're not so weak that we can't do major bosses.

The pet debate is valid, because the difference between pets in kMS is that you only have to buy the water of life to restore your pet, versus having to buy meso magnet, item pouch, dragon scales, binoculars, auto-hp, auto-mp and all the other things every 90 days.

Culture isn't really the main factor in making the kMS community more fun, it's the language barrier. It's actually beneficial. Whenever you have people who are separated by a language barrier, the people who all speak the same language (english in this case) bond better and trust each other more. We lend each other equips, charge NX for each other whenever someone hits the buying limit, sell each other nx, etc. You could find the exact same thing being in a close-knit guild/alliance in gMS. We just have a permanent one

I never said our community was better. I just said our servers are more stable, and we don't have the issue of duping.

I have nothing confused, lag is lag, if lagging it'll cause problems with looting. That's a fact.

I've read about plenty of prejudice concerning american players, you can't compare your experience with your arguement, you have special circumstances. The point of this is that a regular GMS player cannot simply get a KSSN from whatever website and migrate. The challenges would make the game utterly pointless.

I'm sorry are we reading the same thing? I don't know, it's getting a little frustrating trying to provide points to you when your argument is pulled out of your ass. NX is not an issue, permanent or not, KMS and GMS both have to pay a hefty price for cubes/protection scrolls whatever else. Are you going to tell me that KMS gives free cubes? Ask any high level player, their NX goes primarily into cubes, not clothes, not pets. The perma pet equips were badly coded anyway as they were exploitable with the enhancement scrolls.

lolwhat. You aren't bonding with the community at all then, you're just huddling together as if you're extremely contagious diseased bunch. Sure the bonding thing, I get, you take the friends you get and appreciate them because there aren't many. But that doesn't make the Korean Maplestory community more fun. Sounds nothing more different than a private server.

Uh, then please clarify,
you Wrote:overall better user experience.

How is it better when you say that all they have is server stability, oh and tradeable nx which most players don't really give a shyt about unless it's cubes. Also forgot to mention that those "tradeable" cs items cannot be sold if they are used.

Your experience is based off isolation with certain people you can relate to. People do it in GMS too, it's just that you're more desperate so if they speak english they are a friend you'll appreciate.

Sorry, I don't argue for the sake of argument.

Some people like GMS. Some people like KMS. Just leave it at that. There is no 1 right answer in this situation but you two are acting that 1 of the versions is the correct version to play. On top of that, you're derailing this topic to hell.

You should probably teach some of your friends that. None the less it wasn't for the sake of argument, you stated something, I challenged it, you couldn't hold it's ground and gave up. The end.
