Tagging and +1

I've already said this at least three times in two places. I don't know how to be any clearer than that.

Now that i see it, In the Quotes Tab in our profile, is it necessary for it to show when we quote someone too? I would like it to show only when people quote me not the other way around.

I think a good idea would be to have a tag "@Everyone" that only Eos can use. That way you can tag every person to come see a thread rather than having that "YOU MUST COME SEE THIS THREAD NOW".

Never been tagged before, but does it require you to view the thread or does it just give a notice?

Because if not, people can totally ignore the thread and be all "WELL I DIDN'T KNOW THAT WAS THE RULE NOW!" when they get infracted/warned. Case in point: Obscenity rule.

Ignorance of the law is never an excuse in the real world and I'd expect no different on a forum.

One little awesome detail. When you already have pineappled someone (that sounds weird), instead of reading "Remove thanks" it should read "Remove pineapple"

I've suppressed your own quotes/mentions from your profiles quotes/mentions tabs so it only shows who has quoted/mentioned you, not everyone you've ever quoted/mentioned also.

I may adjust this two additional ways based on feedback;

Option 1:
You always see other peoples quotes of you on your profile. On other user's page you always see both when the make a mention, and when they are mentioned.

Option 2:
You have a yes/no/true/false/on/off flag.
With flag ON:
You always see other peoples quotes of you on your profile. On other user's page you always see both when the make a mention, and when they are mentioned.
With flag OFF:
You only see times the user you're looking at, including yourself, have been quoted by other users, not times they themselves have quoted other users.

I'm wary of option 2 because I really don't want to have flags for every little thing under the sun, so it's going to be a tough sell that its better because flexible is not in fact always better when it requires more work, more resources, and makes things more complex than a simple "This is the way it is".

Option 1 is sensible enough, i agree that its not necessary to overcomplicate things like that.

I prefer this option.

Option 1 +1. There doesn't need to be an on/off switch for everything.

What about leaving it the way it is and just never seeing the viewed user's portion?

Seems rather pointless to me to see every quote they ever did.

I'm not sure what you mean by viewed user.

If you mean being able to see other uses quote walls then yes, I agree, it should be hidden. All that should matter is who quoted you so you can respond. If you mean something else then please explain.

The feature is not just visible to you.
The default, original, feature meant that anyone looking at your profile, yourself included, so both all quotes of you, and all quotes by you.

I modified it so that it only showed all quotes of you. That occurs whether it's you looking at your profile, or you looking at Bob's profile, in the latter case you'd see everyone who quoted Bob. Previously you'd see everyone who quoted Bob and everyone Bob quoted, on Bob's page.

What the additional options are, is to change it even further, so that you don't see who you quoted on yours (since you already know), but can see who quoted other users AND who those other users quoted on their own pages. This way it works as you described; For yourself it's an alert, for other people it's informational. This would be a compromise between the extremes of original/now.

The second alternative was the user option so that you essentially toggle on whether it behaves like it does now, or behaves like it originally did when you view someone.

Oh, well in that case...

Are you set on changing it again? Because I think it's perfect now. The only change I'd make is, like I said, limit it so that only the user can see their own quote wall. The only person it should really be of interest to is the user being quoted. (To be clear, I mean that only I should be able to see my quote wall, and you yours.)

But in reality it's not a big enough deal to bother limiting if doing so would require any effort on your end whatsoever. I am a little concerned about certain users following my quote-wall and attempting to stand up for me (which I do not need KhainiWest) when other users quote and say something idiotic about me, but considering that sort of behaviour is limited to a few users on either end it is negligible at best.

No, I'm not. I am willing to make one of those additional changes if they're desired enough, but this is how I would generally prefer it to behave.

The Rule In Progress should cover that issue. It happens more wide spread than you think;

I find it difficult to keep track of when I am quoted, or liked, or mentioned.

Is it possible to have those show up only once, and are removed from your profile after? Or how about just getting a PM over it?

Hell, you don't even really have to notify me for likes.

Edit: @above and the new "White Knight" rule.

What the pineapple. ._.

Other sites that implement the quote system disallow you to view other people's quote tab. Why can't Southperry do that? It surely can't be difficult to implement.

I hope that "White Knighting" isn't going to be a new permanent addition to this forum because it has quite a large amount of grey area. What is the difference between several people arguing with a single person vs. the assumption that someone is "White Knighting" said person? In all my time in Southperry I've never seen a single user complaining about being "White Knighted", with the first time I've even heard of it being mentioned or noticed is the post above with Sarah.

White Knighting rule discussion probably belongs in it's own thread.

Eos, I'm going to use you as a guinea pig, since you've already been notif'd by Locked back to this thread. So sorry in advance for the pointless notification.
