Lets talk about the economy

Stereo Wrote:Economy-wise, you could fix a lot by removing any mesos above a certain amount.

Do it, say, on a curve:
For a certain amount of mesos on an account (all characters on the server)
mesos = N*(1-exp(-mesos/N))

eg. if your account had 50,000 mesos on it:
mesos = N*(1-exp(-50000/N))
N is the ceiling constant - if you want no account to have more than 50 mil left, set N = 5x10^7
mesos = 5e7*(1-exp(-5e4/5e7))
mesos = 49975

But, say you have more mesos - eg. 10 million.
mesos = 5e7*(1-exp(-1e7/5e7))
mesos = 9063462

Or, you're a meso seller, and you have 2147etc. mesos on the account.
mesos = 5e7*(1-exp(-2^31/5e7))
mesos = 50000000

As you can see, for reasonable amounts of mesos (like the amount needed to buy potions) you're hardly affected - if you have pomegranateloads of mesos then you lose most of them.

The amount of mesos removed this way depends on how much people have hoarded - if every account had 10 million mesos on it, it would only remove 10% of it. If every account had 2 billion, it would remove nearly 98% of the mesos in the game.

If they really wanted to get serious about keeping mesos from inflating, they could run it once a month during a server check. The only time you need 50mil is to buy a mount anyway, the rest of the time, the game's better off if nothing costs more than 15-20mil.

The harder it is to keep mesos, the more valuable meso sacks become.

So really it's good for Nexon.

Which is one of the reasons I consider Nexon to be a bunch of hypocrites among many stuff.

Well, yes.

But how can Nexon just cut people's mesos? One could argue that if you buy Meso Sacks with NX Cash and then Nexon takes away those very mesos, they are effectively "stealing" your NX Cash.

Of course, according to the TOS, they can do whatever the hell they please. But they wouldn't (unless they could compensate NX users in some other way, like returning the NX spent).

You could get "golden mesos" from the meso sacks that are immune to the meso cuts, as opposed to regular mesos acquired from killing monsters. They would work entirely like regular mesos. When dropped, traded, or used to buy something from another player's shop, they would automatically convert to regular mesos to avoid transferring golden mesos into the market. This way, the user who used NX to purchase the meso sack keeps the mesos they rightfully paid for, but as soon as they leave that person's inventory, they are subject to being removed during scheduled meso-removal maintenance.

...I feel a little bit crazy.

This thread just makes me not wanna play Maple. None of this will ever happen and Maple just seems worse now thinking about all these coulda/woulda/shoulda's. Maple is just gonna continue to spiral out of control until it hits rock bottom.

Something as overarching as +255 doesn't work or just leaves tons of room for abuse.
My overall has 29 int. I created it YEARS ago. Cheaply available from NPC with ten slots and 1 base int made it relatively easy to get 20+ ap from it. It might have been one 10% followed by one 30% followed by all 60%s, but it was so long ago I honestly don't recall for sure what scrolls I used.

If there is going to be a limit added, it should be dynamic to the item according to how upgradeable the item is and NOT what scrolls are currently available or a flat amount of 20 or something. Each item has a maximum clean amount for every stat. It could be 0 or it could be 17 or it could be 70. Either way, any limit should be x+y, where x is the clean base max and y is the "reasonable" amount that can be upgraded. Maybe the upgrade limit should be the amount of slots available total multiplied by stats gained by a 10% scroll (3 for AP, 5 for atk/matk?)? That way, people who have equipment that gives more than 20 points in a stat legitimately won't ever get beat down for it and only those with truly impossible stats would be affected by the cap.

That is exactly what I said.

I just used 20 as a lowball example number because most piece of equipment (shoes, gloves, etc) can't get that many stats through normal circumstances.

You can use Equip Enhancement scrolls to go over 255 attack. Any other scroll used on an equip with 256+ attack resets it to 255 attack.
This is how the 390 attack cravens and 764 or w/e attack ST's were made, since world transfers had the chance of wiping off their stars.

maplestory bahahahah more like Zimbabwe story.

sucks to still be playing maplestory.

They lured you in with a free to play game, got you addicted to the big numbers flashing upon the screen, then slowly made you pay for your big numbers to the point it just wasn't free to play anymore.

Nexon's business model is impeccable, they should be worshiped as economic deities.

Your post said that the limit should be determined by scrolls, not the equipment itself.

Is anyone gonna jump ship to the next released server in hopes of things being less broken?

What would be the point? The exploiters will show up there sooner or later anyway.

New Servers? Come on now.. did you check out Chaos? The Top 100 of Chaos server when it released was 95% hacking Wild Hunters.

If you want a server that isn't filled with hackers, you have to go to Kradia, Yellonde, Demethos. You know, the dead servers. Those servers are pretty clean. A friend of mine recently just moved back to Yellonde after experiencing how horrible it is in Windia. He only stayed in Windia for 2 and a half months and that was enough to have him leave again.

I mean Raven or Justice when released.

You gotta hope by that point that Nexon has fixed duping, and you got to establish a very anti hacking player base via legitimate guilds.

The majority of higher levels still hack in the "dead servers" Still quite a lot of botters too..
Though I agree, New servers are a joke both hackers and "legits" see them as a chance to be on the high ranks. However hackers have the advantage taking up the first 5 pages on ranks.. usually anyway.

Some of these aren't terrible, but some of them are completely shitty. You're gonna tell me that me and my mules with 2.147 should be cut down to the same level as someone with like 100M? Also, 10 atk cap on items? It took me 2 tries to make my empress helm and overall 10+ atk. maybe 30 atk cap before deletion, but don't be such a little peach about things plox. Also, you realize that none of this will ever happen and they're not gonna rollback so it's pretty much down to QQ moar. A lot of people don't necessarily like it, and a RB woulda been a start to some stabilization IMO, but as you should know from before our opinions don't really matter.

I'm pretty sure MS was built to handle inflation assuming that the source and sink were scaled evenly.

The only source of mesos minus a few obscure quests is to kill monsters and loot the meso or items they drop. People who loot all their drops will get around an average that the current sinks can sustain and thus, keep the value of items/mesos from inflating.

So the problem ultimately lies with the botters who get a disproportionate amount of mesos/items per character (or even per person).

If we're living in a fantasy world where Nexon is willing to take any measure to offer a 5 Star service, Grade A game, there would be several GMs on each server (maybe even per couple channels) around the clock to monitor botting activity. To lessen workload, make it an incentive for players to find botters and track their IGNs for GMs to look out for. These GMs (who would be paid on the hour) would routinely check problem maps (for instance, maps with mobs that contain very valuable drops worth botting for) and briefly check on prime botting locations (unpopulated, large, obscure). You can't eliminate botting completely but you can make it so hard that the profits the botters may get aren't as exponentially devastating as it is today.

Though, if we needed better sinks, making a system where you can trade mesos for restrictive NX Credit (not prepaid) or offer valuable equipment from certain NPCs for a high meso price (like the old Crusader shop with the shoulder and pendant) would be a good start...

As it is now, there are zero GMs on any server at any given moment. It's pretty obvious that they're never on because of the exploits, glitches, hacked players (smega: SHOPPING 11-1 GOGOGO aka I HACKED THIS ACCOUNT AND I NEED TO SELL EVERYTHING FAST), crashes, and blatant meso ad bots filling up channel 1 + smegas that advertise their shitty sites. A good example of how slow information passes to Nexon is that holding E -> 1 month ban thing: the only assurance we had for a couple days is a random forum volunteer saying "they're on it guys; don't worry about it". It seems that even Hime has disconnected from any communication with the players since the only posts she makes on the forums are completely random + have nothing to do with current issues. "Happy Valentines Day" btw (isn't that completely random? <_<).

Because I thought it was obvious that the base stat of the equip would be taken into account when the scrolls are since I repeatedly said each individual equip would have its own number.

Why do you think pomegranate costs so much? It's because there are so many mesos around. If everyone had 1/10 as many mesos, the expensive items would cost 1/10 as much.

But, yes. I do think the people with 2.147 should be cut down to the same level as people with 100m. Back in the day, the meso cap wasn't a problem, because nobody had that much money. Now you can't even buy decent items if you have the most mesos a character can have.
