Nexon sued the people who made the MapleStory server sources.
Even though that case isn't even done yet, they sued another guy (Sithu) earlier this year for, as you can see, a much more larger amount although his server was really small.
Sithu (if I'm reading this correctly) gave in and agreed to pay 750,000 USD.

Arbitrarily high numbers. It's not like they have the money anyway. Even all of their assets combined probably aren't even worth a fraction of that. What are they going to do, lend them money then take it right back? dohoho

Don't forget that he was probably told to take it down before lawsuit. (Not that I know anything of this particular case.)

Then you just can't pay.. They can't make you pay if you don't have money.
So you go to jail, get out, file for disability, profit.
If you're not working, they can't do anything.
