Why the Secret Spell Scroll system would have never worked.
I doubt Nexon can even do that without changing the way their servers work/getting new ones anyway.
tl;dr too much money and effort for Nexon.

This is how the supposed crashless dupe is claimed to work, even though it uses trading, which is already a save point.

No, dupes are all the same, whether they're crashless or not. They both involve rolling back. This one that was public is the same as the one that was public a few months ago. It just involves locking your character so that it rolls back when it's unlocked during the next server crash/check. Channel crash dupes involve the same method except it just crashes to roll your character back.

Oh, misunderstood.
Also, apparently EMS saves inventory at any point that involves removing or adding items.
Can't be that hard to do then.

It really depends on how the game is coded. I can think of ways it could be coded that would make this a nightmare to add, and ways that would make it a quick change to the code.

The question is how much of an inefficiency issue would it be. Hopefully the reason it was put on a timer in the first place was simply because they didn't see a reason to do otherwise. It was a sensible design decision at the time; imagine having to update the database every time a character gains an EXP point, changes map, does anything with inventory, etc. It'd be meaningless extra load on the server. Hopefully it is viable for them to enable it for inventory actions. I think that is the best solution; fixing the database management problem that leads to it.

The crashing is an issue as well, but good security practice says that multiple security mechanisms should be used. This duping is a serious security issue because of the fact that it hurts the entire maple economy. So as well as fixing the crashing, they should also fix the underlying issue, as server crashes are inevitable, and the security of the game shouldn't be dependent on the servers not crashing.

Interesting that EMS is capable of it though, that gives hope.

Also, I have my doubts about new servers being of use. A lot of people keep saying they need new servers, but if the software that the servers are running is flawed (which it is, and that is what is leading to a lot of the issues), then no matter how powerful the servers you throw at the problem are, they aren't going to help.

Disregarding the direct discussion about duping and possible rollbacks and all that jazz...

That sounds like the problem right there.

The problem isn't that Nexon could remove this unintended functionality. The problem is that the players thought they needed to use that unintended functionality in the first place. The "solution" of using this item should have never been available and should have never been seen as a reasonable option. Why isn't the item a one of a kind, untradeable, quest item? The economy should be adjusted such that things can be worth an amount that the player can actually hold. The solution shouldn't be to sidestep the system and invent a new system from something else.

Rather than Nexon allowing this to go on, they should change the system in some way such that this problem can be solved in a better way. Maybe a new denomination of currency that's fully liquid with mesos and has a firm conversion rate of something like 10 million to 1? Changing how the data is stored so that more mesos can be held at once? Cutting away a percentage of all mesos in the system such that players would have, say, half as many mesos, but each remaining meso be worth roughly double, meaning things that cost max before cost half-of-max instead? Maybe some other money sink, like a quest that costs many, many millions of straight mesos and gives a great, unique reward? Whatever, either way, the problem of things costing more money than can be held should be addressed directly within the system, not by players trying to dance around the system.

And really, with all the word of duplicating items, is it any surprise they would do it to something that has a flat meso value like that? Still, Nexon should solve the problem not by making them not able to be turned in anymore. They should solve the problem by making them untradeable and one-of-a-kind. I guess that would require a patch while the other choice might be done in a server check... maybe disable turning them in right now, but return the option to turn them in after the next patch that makes them untradeable and one-of-a-kind?

FabledGumbo Wrote:You guys shouldn't let it get to you. Honestly, unless you're in the 1% (or less) that's PvP'ing the only way these things could affect you is if you're getting your kills stolen at MP3 or some other awkward 3rd job training spot, unless you're on such a moral high horse that it bothers you that anyone has illegitimate items. Not to mention I'm pretty sure most of the people complaining also have 27 attack VSS's.
I'd like to max some of my 4th job skills at some point.

The economy being screwed up is going to make that really rough on me. Even moreso because I've never been able to play the merchanting game very well either, even back in the days when max mesos was a rare feat. I'm not sure what I'm going to do. Maybe find out what drops the ones I need and just stick to them like glue 'til it drops.

But that still leaves me mostly unable to upgrade my equipment beyond its current point either way. I don't mind as much that other people out there might be cheating the game to get better equips, but when the economy is messed up, it makes it harder for me to buy the stuff I need to improve my own stuff. I don't mind other players hitting harder than me, but I still want to be able to hit the hardest I can.

I miss the days when 60% glove att scrolls were 2 mil, which was considered as a nice amount of mesos, and everything else was on that scale. That was when I started playing MS back in winter (US summer) 2007. There was nothing wrong with the 2^31-1 mesos cap in those days. Now everything has just inflated so much, and it is a problem.

I'm not sure it's fixable, even if they were to take out 90% of the mesos in the economy so that in theory mesos was worth 10 times what it previously was, would it just go back the same way?

Then they could just purge again. Maintaining an economy is not something that can be done once and be done with it, it is, or rather should be, an ever going process.

Also, the method people are using to dupe the SSS isn't the method that was released to the public. So unless Nexon wants their economy to be screwed over worse than ever, they better remove them from MTS sometime soon.

It's ridiculous that it needs constant maintenance.

But as long as there are botters and gold sellers...

It actualy makes perfect sense, botters or not. Try as a goverment to leave the economy totaly alone and see what becomes of your country. MMORPGs are no different in that regard.

Okay, fair enough. I agree there.

I don't know very much about economics, so I admit I don't really know what I'm talking about it when it comes to the maple economy.

Maple's economy didn't need too much tweaking company-wise for the first 2? years I'd say, but as Afrobean said, if crap sells for more than the maximum amount of money a character can even fucking hold? Even SEVERAL TIMES MORE THAN THAT? You know there's something terribly, TERRIBLY wrong with your game's economy.

Indeed its odd, where are all this mesos coming from? kMS and jMS have botters as us (not sure if as many or less or more) but their economy is just like ours a few years back, to those that haven't quit since beta when did pomegranate started to inflate fast as hell? I think my only quit was from a bit before MTS (not sure but I did quit on some point on early '08) till Aran (so like two years) and from before my quit to after it seems everything doubled, in other words there seems there was a 100% inflation rate in those two years (take a few months) and only thing noteworthy that changed was the addition of the MTS.

NexonNA releases meso sacks in the CS which can give up to... 761m(?) per sack if you're lucky. So they're at fault for a big chunk of mesos we have. As Heidi mentioned earlier, getting rid of 90% of the mesos in the current economy, that'd fix a lot of things, though problems may lie with the greedy players eventually pricing items above max again when the meso is farmed back up.

im tired of rollbacks that does nothing, just let the kids buy duped shyt since maples already fucked and nexon cant get rid of hacked gears anyways

If i am correct, in the beggining, the first time the meso sacks were realesed, they give up to 10m... the golden one... the ones that can give up to 750-800m(?) are the new ones...

Yeah, before they were.. brown(1 or 2m), silver(5m), and gold(10m), somewhere around there. Then they released random quantity sacks with WAY higher meso counts.

But i am pretty sure that mesos sacks(the ones of 800m) are not even the 2% of mesos in the economy... they were out when the economy was already screwed

Not really WAY higher.
The "up to" amounts advertised were never meant to be reached or even approached. Extracted data showed that the average amount these bags were made to give were pretty much the same as the old kind.
