I thought this was pretty cool, i was looking at this 'game' on newgrounds showing the scale of the universe from the biggest to the tiniest, as i'm zooming out through the planets and onto stars, i see this:
It's pretty impressive when you think about it. The minecraft world is technically bigger than our own planet

Wow, Minecraft 1.2 is looking to be one of the best updates in a while. Higher world boundaries, lanterns, all new AI for everything, etc.

Certainly will be helpful. Though in hindsight, now diggin that hole in Zelkova's world had no purpose as it could have been made on the surface. In fact, when that patch hits and the map is manually updated, I'll follow through on my request to edit some things so that the hole is filled and the house just placed on top of it along with some movement of glass ceilings and such.
This makes the idea for a Majora's Moon project much more realistic though, since it won't have to be only 20 blocks from the ground or something. That and many other sky projects are far more plausible now without having to resort to flatland. Still not sure I like the idea of lanterns and having to relight torches though.
If biomes are restructured with this to represent the height difference, I might have to lean towards a new map again for the SP server. If we can work something out between Zelkova, I'd be willing to do the work for moving over people's projects to a new map provided a biome to work with and placed signs to show where to put and orient things. IE he puts up a blank server and everyone explores in creative for a bit to find a plot to paste their old projects (major only, like the main village). Of course, that'd all be assuming the biome height creation is changed, and MCedit is updated in a timely manner. If there's interest I'll take this over to the proper thread and discuss it there.

Then what would be the difference in a village biome? that means the village would spawn on the same terrain all the time. I actually like the way it spawns now, it can spawn on the plains, or in a snowy field or in a desert (i've even seen some spawn on the beach) and thats far more fun.

Because Notch was in charge.
Notch only implemented things according to his own interests, which is why there were tons of disappointing updates, most with very little added except novelty crap.

I'm confused by what "Some nights in villages will be worse than others" means. I'm guessing it means there is some sort of rare event that happens (like a blood moon in Terraria, i suppose).
It might be fun to think of inventive ways to protect the villagers
