nexon seriously needs to revamp storylines and makes sense of the class. either have the class gender-limited or have it be that maplers go through quests to find out about the hero's powers and follow their footsteps.

And with them using fem!Aran's sprite in Phantom's storyline, Phantom doesn't seem to have anything to say to her at all... So my conclusion is something along the lines of this:
Fem!Aran could possibly be one of the Rien tribe members, and was just named after Aran in order to be a strong warrior like him. Considering Nexon is revamping a lot of areas, I am guessing we might see a quest line revamp for Aran once the 5th hero is released, which may include a Rien map revamp. This would make fem!Aran similar to the pirate Valerie, whom used to be just PC art until the 8th anny celebration and the Nautilus revamp.

Well, as someone else said, Maple is full of stories, not just one. So it might be because of that. Surely doesn't make much sense, but what can you do. Many other things in the game's storyline don't (apparently).

You know what? I'd have made this so it would have chosen the highest level Aran you had in your account as that gender. If there's conflict, make it random. End of the story, same with Evan. Even if it isn't that needed due to his... uhm... looks.
