Largest Maplestory hacking website being sued by Nexon America and Nexon Korea Corp.
Locked Wrote:I know you on a first name basis!

You're mistaken. A first name basis is reciprocal. I neither know nor care yours.

Again - You know of me. We do not know each other.
It's not having what you want - It's wanting what you've got.

@above comments.
By default? No.
As a requirement of their job in order to adequately present their case? Yes.
It's part of a lawyer's job to actually research what it is they're going to be arguing over.

donovan Wrote:They should drop all charges under the condition that all the hackers must work for Maple to improve it's security, let the admins who have no coding talent suffer.
There's not much to be done for Nexon's security.
As long as Maplestory is a client-heavy game, it will always be vulnerable.

byakugan Wrote:lol, Some of these people were making around half a million a year from this (or so they say), I highly doubt they would conform with a regular wage or a regular job. I really hope they don't have to pay a fine for this because they'd just pay and keep with their sh1t. Give them a year in jail Rolleyes
You may want to read the lawsuit or, at very least, my post.

"As a direct and proximate result of the infringements by Defendants, Nexon is entitled to damages and to Defendants' profits in amounts to be proven at trial which are not currently ascertainable. Alternatively, Nexon is entitled to maximum statutor damages of $150,000 for each copyright infringed, or in such other amount as may be proper under 17 U.S.C. (section) 504©."

"Defendant's conduct has resulted in damage to Nexon in an amount to be proven at trial. By Nexon's estimation, such damage is in the tens or hundreds of millions of dollars."

Nexon isn't just trying to have them fined. Nexon is suing for damages and all profit these people have made from selling their programs/subscriptions.
Granted, they're probably not going to get everything for which they're asking, but this isn't going to be a slap on the wrist.

Also, being a lawsuit, these people aren't going to jail based on the ruling of this case.
People need to stop suggesting that.
Tax evasion could get them put in jail, but that would have to be a completely different trial.

donovan Wrote:Well from skimming the thread it's a civil suit, but can they really use the illicit funds to pay their fines?
I think their main issue will be retaining those funds.

MissingLink Wrote:This is a bit unnerving actually, that a few SP regulars seem to be on first-name basis with a major hacker who apparently also supplies hacks to the Chinese gold-site hackers, the same ones who have been ripping through many thousands of accounts since August.
BRB - removing ALL information from my user profile.
Hokay, you definitely don't know what it means to be on a "first name basis".

As for my use of Ryan Cornwall's name, I would have used this individual's alias, Riu Kuzaki, but, as it is very similar to SP's own Riukuzaki, I did not want to appear to be accusing the latter of being a hacker.

Before reading the case, not only didn't I know the former's real name, but I hadn't every heard of his alias.
In fact, the only name amongst the defendant list that I even recognized was 'Bizarro' since his trainer is so notorious.
So, unless your name ends up alongside your alias in a legal document I find relevant or you join the SPers who openly go by their first names, I won't ever know yours.

On a side note, if you don't want people to know your information, it's generally a good idea to, get this, NOT GIVE IT OUT!
While I don't entirely understand why you're thinking to hide it now, perhaps this is something you should think out a little better in the future.

Corn Wrote:I'm just finding it amusing that there is always a lawyer associated with Nexon or the defendant that has a name which is some variant of Corn.
Corn is in everything.

Eos Wrote:Knowing a name isn't being on a first-name basis with someone any more than everyone here Knows Justin Bieber personally.
Exactly!
I'm actually offended that he would imply that my relationship with Mr. Bieber was anything like my relationship with you.

Though it does hurt me the way you'll just let anyone call you 'Eos'... Sad

Ice cold.

Kick their ass in courts, new Corn man! I dream of a Maple where the hackers don't outnumber the legits. Where the legits aren't scared of the hackers. Where the police aren't a polite fiction mentioned in the terms of service.

Viaje Wrote:What charges in this case do you believe could be criminal?

Sorry I missed this one, I believe the computer fraud act is actually for criminal rather than civil cases. Though you're absolutely correct it will have to be tried on a separate case.

By the time this gets into court+any action is taken(assuming they win), it'll be 1-2 years from now, and by then Maple will be either dead or broken to the point where hacks don't even matter.
Not going to change anything by sueing them.

HEY, LOOK! IT'S UTTER NONSENSE!

First of all, Nexon will undeniably win. That is not a question.

Second of all, you doomsayers need to cut your pomegranate out. Maplestory will likely be around for decades.
Shittier games are still alive and kicking. Why do people think Maplestory will be any different?
Nexon Korea hasn't at all slowed down on bringing content, and they still have at least one more class to release, so that's at least six more months of life in KMS which translates to a year for GMS.

KMS won't die because it doesn't have these hacking problems and GMS won't die because Nexon makes too much damn money from it.

But let's stroll into imagination land and pretend that Maplestory completely kicks the bucket (that is, even KMS gets magically killed) before this goes to court.
Do you think that matters?
Nexon will still be around, and there's no reason that the game in question needs to be active for this lawsuit to survive.

So, yes, it will change something in that, even if the hackers kill GMS before this settles, Nexon will have showed its fangs, and maybe Maplestory 2 won't have to deal with this pomegranate.

I didn't mean to imply that you knew the people. I just quoted you because I was agreeing with what you said and continuing on from that idea.

You called some people apologists. It looked to me that they were more than that since they knew names and details that were not included in the legal document, or were even in contact with one of the people involved.

@CrazyNomad The IP/mac ban was from something unrelated to writing programs.

@Flonne I can't even afford to pay my bills, and I don't support d/c hackers. I don't know any d/c hacks or exploits.

@Viaje They're also lying about my income. They seem to think I'm rich...

@iamflip That's because they're outsourcing to the wrong person. I alone would probably be able to stop all of their hacker troubles (and I'd be willing to take the job).

@Viaje Hope they don't think they're getting anything out of me unless they want my lunch money.

@Riukuzaki Who are you, and why are you pretending to be me? It's very obvious that you're trying to parade around as me, especially because you're using my avatar and signature.

@Viaje RiPE does not change the way the game is played. I'm not responsible for what people manage to do with my tools, just as Cheat Engine is not responsible for hacks that are made with it. If I had it my way, I'd prevent all exploits and d/c hacks with RiPE. But that would require me to actually know what the exploits and d/c hacks were.

@donovan I'd love to work for Nexon to help improve its security. :/

@Blades4hire Simple. Ask us both a programming or security question. I doubt @Riukuzaki will be able to answer it. Protip: I don't play MapleStory.
