Removal and Replacement of Illicit Items

Dear Maplers,

During the unscheduled server maintenance, we are addressing an issue with certain items with abnormally created stats and their circulation in game. These items pose a threat to the balance of MapleStory and to restore order we will be taking the following steps to eliminate the abnormal items.

Any item that has been successfully upgraded beyond its allowed slots (including with Cash upgrades) will be removed from the players’ inventory and replaced with a clean, unscrolled version.
Any item that does not have successful upgrades beyond the allowed slots but has the possibility to be upgraded beyond the allowed slots will have the extra slots removed, and the item will remain as is.
If you are a player that had abnormal items removed you will experience the following upon logging into the game.

A message will appear to your character with the abnormal items letting you know clean versions of the items have been placed in your Inventory.
You will not receive the clean items if your Inventory is full. Please make space and relog to retrieve your items.
If the abnormal items were in Storage, the clean itema will be given to the highest level character on the account. Please see #1 and #2 on how the items will be delivered.
The removal and replacement of illicit items will apply to all players currently in possession of the items regardless of how they were obtained. We cannot refund players who may have purchased abnormal items with mesos or through the MTS. We fully understand the chance of legitimate players affected by this issue and we made a very hard decision to keep a strong stance against any action that may endanger the game for all our players. We apologize for the inconveniences this may cause and truly appreciate your support to keeping the game healthy.

Hackers are not a single minded monolith. Someone was saying earlier how "it was decided" not to release the 300 stat items to the general public - that's total bunk. Even if it was true, it just incentivizes individual hackers to sell them all the more, since they would be the sole supplier and would therefore charge a higher price and make more money.

Just because they don't want MS to die for the sake of their wallets doesn't mean their actions won't move it closer to that. No individual drop of rain believes it is to blame for the flood.

Judging by the general position gain in that section, I can say that 280 level 200s were banned, or taken off the rankings at the very least.
Now, there are still a lot of hackers left on the rankings, but its a start.

The rankings appear very strange, you see some characters that moved down 195 places while right next to them someone else moved down 94341 places. Makes me really wonder what they are doing but then again you cant make any judgments by rankings in a LONG TIME.

im on the fence about this since knowing nexon and their history there is a good chance things are gonna screw up just like that ua incident

indeed, not sure if anyone remembers the duping method of CvP, but before it went public, people were paying HUMONGOUS loads for how it worked, those who knew stayed silent.

...until one spoke, and it started moving around, until the point the original guy (or one of them) decided to release it to the public to get it patched asap.

if the maplestory "hacker" mafia isn't together on something, they destroy what they have in common, has happened before, will happen again if someone did indeed not keep the 255 atk equips private.

not that it matters anymore though. they're all gone (hopefully)

Keeping the information secret is a lot easier than keeping the items contained. There's no benefit to a hacker telling people how to make a 300 stat item, but there is a benefit to one selling a created one, regardless of what his hacker buddies told him to do.

There are only 3-4 people confirmed to have the exploit.
They are all part of the same "team"
Obviously they all trust each other enough to keep the exploit within them.
Hackers aren't idiots who betray their allies at the first chance.

besides what blades said, remember two things, there are "teams" so to speak, they get in trouble with how each other does business, hell happens (example: deflation and undercutting of empress equips, they went down basically 1 bil in 2 days in scania)

other thing is that you are thinking short term, they probably deemed that they earn enough already, i presume they wanted to keep the items for future profit, say a new cygnus-like boss comes out, easier to hoard everything if they can kill from the get-go with overly powerful gear, and then dupe and whatnot.

I think it'd be a better idea for Nexon to do something then mention what it says so then people don't try to "sell" some more things in the mts before a server check...
