Guess it's not so obvious, but ya know, that's the difference between understanding and pretending. So... what are you objecting to? Wisconsin was already one that gave free state IDs (I think that's what the non-drivers DMV issued ID is)
What is the undue burden that makes anyone call this "restricting democracy"?

...Wow you're thick, but I can continue to kick you down if necessary. State Id's that this is applicable too do cost money. Specifically in this thread, a NY ID is 10-14$ depending on a 5/8/9 year. You're saying there is no "poll tax" but it's in every goddam DMV website that I can see.

I'm not thick, I'm refusing to let you say THEY CHARGE FOR IDS IN NEW YORK THEREFORE HOW DARE WISCONSIN REQUIRE IDS YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR.
http://www.dot.wisconsin.gov/drivers/dri...idcard.htm
Each state has to comply with existing law. That doesn't mean they have to have the same laws.
Seriously, you people fail at Google, so it must be a vast right wing conspiracy to restrict the institution of voting.

So would you same the same for males under 25 who have to pay more for auto insurance compared to their female counterparts?

That's more of a statistic issue, although it's changing because of texting.

I'd rather my insurance rate be tailored to how I drive rather than some generalization that idiots who don't know how to drive have contributed to.
But maybe that's my own naive opinion.

ME: ???? Find me one state that has just passed an in state ID requirement for voting that doesn't offer a free voter ID card/some other free issue that meets the requirement for voting.
If you'd read the link I just posted, you'd see what a fool you were making of yourself. Wisconsin offers a free voter ID card. New York didn't pass a new voter ID law this year, as far as I know, so I don't give a damn how much it costs for an ID there.
And even if one state screwed up and effectively instituted a poll tax, it'll get struck down probably before the election. The entire "narrative" about "all these laws" you folks were spouting can be summed up exactly as I put it: how dare they prevent voter fraud that benefits my candidate of choice. The vast majority (if not all) of these laws are constitutional, and moreover the baseline common sense requirements you need to run a fair election.

I think it's justified the first 2 years, after that you're right it should be tailored. HOWEVER that's just justifying the purpose of it. Other than that no, it's kind of unreasonable I pay more than the blonde who blew up her car.
@above
...lol I can see you don't get it, so further elaboration:
Your argument Wrote:A free ID card is available under Wisconsin law to anyone who:- will be at least 18 years of age on the date of the next election and;
- requests an ID card for the purpose of voting.
Man that looks mighty pretty ey??
fact Wrote:A free ID card is NOT available under the following circumstances:
If you are not eligible to vote in Wisconsin
Oh and how do you become an eligble voter? You get a drivers license. Lastly the term you're looking for is STRICT PHOTO ID. Nearly 30 states have ID, that fit your criteria, 8 of which are much stricter that fit my criteria.

You don't necessarily need a drivers license to register to vote - to be eligible. You need proof of residency, generally. An in state drivers license with your address does suffice in most states, but that hardly makes it the only way. You still don't have a point that justifies your argument.
Really, bringing your New York drivers license to the county clerk in Wisconsin to register to vote didn't make sense in the first place. Just because you can drive in one state doesn't mean you can vote in another.

Isn't the whole insurance business about making money anyway? I imagine that even if a million dumb blonds (pardon the generalization) blow up their cars across the country simultaneously, that would likely bring up their insurance cost and not drop ours.
Actually, on this note, I've been wondering for this past year. If car insurance is mandatory, is the government actually involved in regulating the prices, since all we can do is limited to bending over for one company or the other?

You're still an American citizen, you're still voting for the people who will run the country you live in. Which state you got your drivers license in shouldn't matter one damn bit if you're a legal citizen in the country.

Of course it should. When you vote it's not just for the president. You could be voting for your district's representative, your state senator, any number of state congresspeople, and a myriad of local elected positions. Someone who lives in New York has no business voting in the morning in his state, crossing a bridge in the afternoon and voting again in another state, but that's exactly what can happen if the only requirement to vote is a drivers license of any state.

voteCount <= 1
?
Just a suggestion. Sure, I would hate Wisconsin so much that I would buy a roundtrip airplane ticket to fly over and vote for their worst representatives just to pineapple with them and lose the ability to ensure my state's political healthiness.

Doesn't the US get voter cards? To keep track of who's eligible to vote and who has already voted? That would solve that problem pretty quickly. It just seems that there are too many arbitrary hoops to jump through to exercise one's right to vote in the US. Especially considering a lot of Americans don't stay in their home state. And I can't believe that voter fraud is that huge of an issue.

You're kidding me right?
Dear God. I mean, I honestly have no idea how the polls work, but it doesn't seem like it'd be that hard to check someone's ID to see if they're actually FROM said state and have any business to be voting there.
Christ.

You forget that the USA has this ridiculous system of voting by state. If you're a Democrat and you're voting in your home state that's 90% Democrat anyway, your vote means nothing. If you go and vote in a state that's 50/50, your vote could turn the whole election around. So, all these young people chose to go to school in a contested state, for the sole purpose of casting the decisive vote when the time comes...

We don't have a national ID card in the US, and a lot of people are opposed to the federal government making one. So it's state-by-state as far as voter eligibility goes.
