I don't know how to catch your attention.

well.
have any of you conquered an abstinense/addiction?

when I started working as a chef, I used to smoke a boatload of cigarettes to calm down, but now it's alcohol and cigarettes.
I don't get drunk, but comfortably effected.

do any of you have any tips to avoid the alcohol part?
it's party season in Denmark, I will be attending a lot of christmas dinners, and it is considered impolite not to have a few shots at the table when eating.

I conquered my addiction to Maplestory, if that counts.

My ex left me partially because I'd drink, but we were both young and stupid back then. I stopped drinking a lot because of that, but I'll drink a liiiiiittle bit if I'm offered at a party or if I've had a long day. Don't know how to really tell you to control yourself though. :V

Everypne's different, so I can't really give you decent advice. I drink and smoke right now, but I smoke a pack a month or less (no joke). Since it's cloves, I don't get addicted or feel the need to smoke it as much. But I resort to smoking when I get stressed. As for drinking, I've been doing way less of that. Just try to not think of it and find things to occupy yourself with. Nowadays, I still go to the bars and drink, but it's like 2-3 times a month, or less. I don't feel like spending a lot of money on booze, since I'm kinda low on budget. Just keep telling yourself logical reasons for why you shouldn't smoke and drink, I guess? That's what I sorta do. Or slowly decrease the amount of drinking and smoking. Start with a goal.

Self control will only happen if it is something that you truly want. If you want to stop smoking and/or drinking, then the best thing to do is minimize your exposure to those things and just constantly tell yourself that you don't want to do it anymore. For me knowing my reasons for why I don't want to do something helps detour me from doing things I don't like to.

Hope that helps :3

If you're moderately drinking I don't see the problem, it's all about moderation, you don't have to go cold turkey. It sounds like you just want to stick with smoking but you're better off reversing it.

I smoke about 40 cigarettes a day, and have about 3 beers right when I'm done working, then 3 more when I get home.

I think it's because of availability, and a very weak spine when it comes to things feeling good.

If I were you I'd focus on the smoking. It's far more expensive, harmful, and disgusting than getting a bit buzzed. No one wants to kiss, let alone be around, an ashtray.

Hoooooley f'uck man. Two packs a day? Damn.

Wish I could give you some advice, but since I've never smoked before and only drink every once in a while I would give a horrible answer.
