Mythbusters Misfire
#1
Been laughing my butt off over this one;

http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment...e-1.988169

Short of it Wrote:A wacky stunt for the TV show “Mythbusters” went haywire Tuesday and sent a cannonball tearing though a sleeping family's home in California.

The occupants miraculously escaped injury.

“It was crazy. That's for sure," Sgt. J.D. Nelson of the Alameda County Sheriff's Department told the Daily News. “If someone asked me two days ago, 'Could this homemade cannon shoot that far, off a hill into this neighborhood?' I would have said no way. But now it's confirmed."

He said the popular Discovery Channel show intended to fire the 6-inch steel cannonball to test its velocity. It aimed the projectile at huge containers of water meant to absorb the impact on the grounds of the sheriff's bomb disposal range.

The fact it happened while supervised on the sheriff's own bomb disposal range is just hilarious.

They were saying that the bomb range is really made to contain a blast, not to shoot stuff out of it. Also the fact that developers have been building so close to the range.

Landing certainly wasn't... it hit a house ~1.5km from the test site, then did another hundred meters of bouncing off houses and stuff before it stopped. Don't imagine they planned for that.

The aftermath certainly was though. Might not see the actual event, but you can certainly see the path it took Biggrin

"When it hit she didn't really know what the noise was, a falling tree, a meteor, didn't expect it to be a cannon ball."

Well somebody has some imagination in that neighborhood.

A meteor is far more probable than a cannonball.

Truth.

inb4 cannons are banned at the bomb range. Mythbusters got banned from a quarry for supposedly leveling a town (that didn't really happen).

It was because the shock wave shook houses and set off car alarms, I don't recall if broken windows or not.
