Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword [SPOILERS]
CommanderJinn Wrote:Not true, I decided to stray away from phantom hourglass and spirit tracks because of the controls. But I jumped on Skyward sword because it struck a good balance between a new control scheme and old game mechanics.

And did you make that decision yourself or did a review do it for you?

Myself. I knew through looking at gameplay videos and playing the multiplayer in Phantom hourglass that I wouldn't enjoy it.

The only real problem I'm seeing here is that ShiKage cares too much (read: at all) about what people say about Zelda games.

The general opinion about franchises like these should be shunned like the plague anyway. New is not always better, look how they absolutely slaughtered Final Fantasy. The whole RPG genre suffers greatly because of this idiocy.

They put a giant 25th anniversary logo at the beginning of the game. Skyward Sword is a celebration of every Zelda game that preceded it. Anyone who expected otherwise wasn't paying attention.

It's smart really, pair the biggest gameplay departure in the series since Ocarina of Time with a ton of nods to previous games - that cushions the blow best for those of us who were most concerned about motion controls.

As for the controls themselves... better than I expected. I don't think I'd prefer them ultimately to my good old gamecube controller. Ironically enough, you could probably pull off the majority of existing skyward sword gameplay by using a second analog stick for the sword cuts instead of motion controls. Still though, this is a better implementation than I expected and it doesn't get in the way.

WHY DO THINGS NOT WORK WHEN I USE THEM IMPROPERLY?

I like that player fatigue or impatience translates into sloppy (ineffective) play, that's one thing you can't easily do with traditional controls as you gradually descend into lazy button rhythm.

Is there ANYWHERE you can still pick up the gold remote bundle? I've been trying really hard to find a copy as the holiday season's been rolling in, except GameStop pretty much ordered them according to who preordered them for the most part so I can't find a single nearby GameStop with one of these. If not, oh well- I'm still able to find the orchestra CD now, right?

I believe the orchestra CD comes with every game, so that's guaranteed if you get a copy. The Wii remote only comes with the special edition box.

No, the CD is said to only be included with the first batch of the game. Here in Sweden there are a crapzilion copies with the CD though, not at all like with the golden cartridge OoT.

Oh god. lol

Now it's Assassin's Creed vs. Zelda. With all of the people butthurt about Zelda winning against Skyrim, Zelda has no chance against Assassin's Creed.

Also, votes are hidden for this round. Oh dear. All of the butthurt Skyrim fans' comments are hilarious.

Skyrim DESERVED to lose given how fucking glitchy and broken it is. So tired of Bethesda releasing games that are completely blatantly not tested.

I dunno, people propped up Zelda as best franchise iirc so you never know.

Assassin's Creed won't win. It's got a lot of acclaim but I think they number of responses to my Revelations thread is pretty telling.

Zelda will win, by far it's the best game I played this year. The story was cool, the motion controls were just awesome (except for the beetle glitch, i really hated it), the music was a bit disappointing for a zelda game but the main theme and Lanayru mine saved it, the graphics were awesome (the emotions from the characters were very touching except for Fi) and the gameplay in general was pretty good.

Fi's theme, and Theme of love are also good ones. Would've loved if Song of the Hero was longer too. I think the soundtrack for SS was pretty good. The overworld (flying above the clouds) was mehish to me, but I guess I'm looking back at epic overworld themes from OoT, TP and the Dark World in LttP

I'm sorry, but I'd like to see you release a game of that magnitude and not miss an glitches. It is literally impossible.
