Help for video making

Hi folks,
Okay, so I need FRAPS to record pieces of my gameplay. I also possess Windows Video Maker to blend everything together.
One question:
Is there a way (read FREE program) where you can just select a portion of the screen? I mean I don't want the future viewers to see the bottom and top of the screen, just my character training or interacting.

it doesn't capture videos. those two are totally different programs.

Oh. I just use Fraps and Virtual Dub. Virtual Dub for cropping the screen. I could make a guide on it if you don't understand how to work with it.
