Internet slow as pomegranate
#1
Ok, so until last week, my internet was fine, fast even, then it just slowed to snail's pace last Friday. It improved slightly as the week passed, then resumed the slowness of last Friday today. It's a cable internet, so I expect it to slow down during high traffic hours, but not to the point where I can't even smash an Evil Eye without lag. (as a side note, the internet worked fine through summer and September, even during said traffic hours. I didn't have it before then)

I couldn't even get a speedtest to run, the internet is so slow. I have not changed anything related to internet in months, so that can't be the problem. When I tried a download, I got this in 5 minutes (without ever fully loading 1 mb)

Peak: 30-something kb/sec
Bottom: 6.1 kb/sec

Anyone have any ideas to speed this up to where MS is playable? (SP is the only website that works/ comes up within a few minutes regularly atm)

Call the ISP and ask if there's anything going on. Else, a restart of modem and router for 5 mins doesn't hurt.

Finally, if all of this doesn't work, ask your brother to stop downloading porn.

[COLOR="Indigo"]If you're closing in on the end of your billing cycle, there's a slight possibility that your family has hit the bandwidth cap (the amount of data you're allowed to download) and that's why things are so slow.

Most billing cycles start at the beginning of a month, which is why I bring that up. Not sure how bandwidth caps work with a cable network, since we have DSL through AT&T. Usually that cap is fairly high, even for the inexpensive plans, and most folks don't have to worry about reaching it. I think my family hit it once or twice in the three years we've lived here.

As others mentioned, try restarting your modem and router and, if possible, connect one computer to the modem and test the connection.

Do you have a wireless router? If so, someone could be leeching your bandwidth

Mines all over the place aswell.

One minute I'm downloading at 200kb/s (fucking godly for me), then it drops to 50kb/s (was average). Then, it would hit 2kb/s.

All in the same day
