Do you feel Nexon exploits it's playerbase?
#21
Sarah Wrote:There is no other answer besides 'yes.' It's not a matter of opinion, it's a fact. This isn't "do you think Nexon does good things sometimes." or "Do you think Nexon has gotten better." Or something quantifiable; it's a yes or no question about a company who thrives on people who they continually mistreat. They are exploitative beyond question.

That sums it up the best.

A company should "take advantage" of its customers. But what makes something exploitation rather than fee for service or product is not just a matter of degree.

Those of you who bought into cubing and wasted a ton of money are just as responsible as anyone else bilked into buying garbage. Is it immoral to bilk idiots? Maybe.

SwordStalker Wrote:Not exploit. They're a company. They want to drain us for all their worth. It's the exact same thing Nintendo, Sony etc does. They make something you want to buy, you buy it. The potential system is no different. You want better gear, give us your money. Don't see a problem. Gaming systems, you want whats new has the better graphics and does all this and more? Give us money.
But this isn't the right way to look at it, everything a company does is not equally moral or immoral just because they want to make money. Certainly in the case of game designers, there's a finished product, a game, that we can assess and decide if the way they do business has good or bad results.

What makes a Nintendo game better than what Nexon has made of MS? Nintendo never charged us to get the best sword in a Zelda game - hell they never even sold a downloadable dungeon. They sell a finished game, and how much you can do in it is entirely up to you. Nintendo barely ever does microtransactions for supplemental content, and that isn't even close to selling in game items directly that affect your gameplay. So are they less interested in making money than Nexon? Of course not.

So why doesn't Nintendo milk their customers to the extent Nexon does? Because they're a company that cares much more about the quality of their product. How much they make just this quarter isn't their priority, they're in it for a longer term. A customer taking it up the butt from Nexon now is much less likely to play their other games, or even continue playing MS. Nexon gets a few fools to shell out thousands, but Nintendo gets many more people to shell out hundreds, and not come away feeling ripped off. Its as much about how they do business as how they design games.

Really, the exploitation I'm angry about isn't a company enabling addicts, it's a company ruining its product. Nexon is exploiting the existing work they did building MS and its playerbase. There are things about this game I liked, that were the reason I played it - and most of them are damaged or at best ignored due to the potential system. They've got an established game, with people who want to play it (or sunk enough time/money into it to keep playing it), and now they sacrifice game balance, design, and objectives in such a way as to extract as much and as quickly as possible from that established playerbase. pineapple microtransactions and definitely pineapple purchasing in game items with real money.

I do consider Nexon exploits its player base. The sole fact they keep adding on and on Gambling systems (Potential, Mount Gachapon, Chair Gachapon, Regular Gachapon, Gachapon Boxes, Microwave ovens, Peanut Machines, etc) with reward items that most of the time are superior to the regular items in game, and to make these systems 'NX only' features seems to me like screwing over those that have worked (or previously paid) hard to get what they got.

I've been thinking for a while now that the reason why Nexon does so little to protect and fix the ingame economy is because it actually is convenient to them that's broken. As mesos become less valuable, NX becomes more indispensable to players, to keep their characters in a aceptable lvl of strength. They also continuously keep on adding items that help to raise this standard level of strength, forcing players to "buy or be left behind".

ShinkuDragon Wrote:do note, with enough free time and mesos, you can achieve "decent" stats on equips, i'd say enough to get a group to kill PB i'd say, any higher than that (except VL) i don't see happening.

didn't CHT get beaten before potential anyways?

I thought we got CZak / CHT in the same patch as Potential?

Definitely, the gachapon jackpot and cubes are a clear example for this. They know people will buy whatever kind of crap the put out as long as it makes them stronger/gives me a higher e-social status.

Patches... ever since Aran class came out there has been fewer and fewer content. Once Evan was out it has been : Class Changes (.86), Big Bang (.93), Chaos (.99), Ascension (1.01). Class changes after class changes after class changes, the funny thing is there is another one coming in 2012 (2011 in KMS).

I know that class changes is the whole Korean Nexon fault but Nexon America needs to take ownership of this game.
We had VPQ and of a sudden it was removed and now a Gacha item.
We had ownership of Amoria, KMS decided to revamp the wedding system and gMS followed.

When I look at other version of MapleStory most version take ownership of there version.
Looking at JMS they are amazing at that, looking at CMS, TMS they had/have some ownership.

For bugs/glitches/exploits, it can be fixed but Nexon doesn't know how. We have amateurs who have there own server and fix all the bugs/glitches/exploit in the game.

Out of the all the patches we had in GMS we had only 36 known bug fixes, 2 emergency patches.

Ever since Gacha came out I learned the dark side of Nexon.
My friend used 1 ticket and he gets a dark scroll for gloves, I used a ticket I get a (1) Reindeer Milk.
I was okay with that because is real life there is also Gacha in stores, and you don't know what prize you will get.

But then... cubes. Cubes is kind of self explained.

Getting your account hacked is also horrible in this game. When I am playing the game I don't think I will get hacked, but I guess we have to, and the sad thing is we have to pay for extra security in the cash shop to lock one item.

Hooboy! Aren't horribly insufficient metaphors the best?
What better way is there to say "I have no idea what I'm talking about"?

Your comparison would pretend that developing a piece of hardware is the same as developing a microtransaction. Think about that for a second.
Are microtransactions limited by current technology?
Do microtransactions require any significant monetary investment into R&D?
Do microtransactions tend to result in a net loss?
Do microtransactions face competition?
Is there a large demand for more microtransactions?
No? Well, then I guess Nexon isn't doing the exact same thing that Nintendo and Sony do.

Realistically, I think it's a fair assumption to say that no one wants game-altering NX items.
Where are the people who you claim were clamoring for the ability to pay real money to super-charge their characters?
This thread has already clearly indicated that I'm not alone in despising a system that would have all of my previous investments made useless by the latest cash-grabbing scheme.
I'm not alone in wishing that the game were ruled by in-game investments instead of by who is pulling the most money out of their wallets.

Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft don't develop new hardware because they want to rip off their fanbases.
They do it because, if they don't, they're out of the game. Oddly enough, once someone has a specific console, they don't need a duplicate.
So these companies need to introduce new hardware.

Nexon didn't need to introduce a brand new item tier.
Nexon didn't need to introduce Potential in the first place.
They had plenty of money-making items, but their greed brought them to breaking the game for the sake of profit.

Yes, they charge you real life currency for expiring virtual chairs and riding mounts. Pretty disgusting. If i pay for something from their jackpot machine it better be permanent or last for a year MINIMUM.

It sucks, because PB and all future bosses were designed around the Potential System. Rather funny seeing Nexon designed PB to be an intentional cockblock until we got said system.

There's plenty of people who play Nexon games without spending a dime and do very well. Some of the strongest maplers I ever met were just good marketers

The biggest problem I have ever had with Nexon is with hackers. They make enough money to get rid of hackers from their game. I have played WoW for over 2 years now and have never seen a hacker once ever.

I played WoW for two weeks and met two, one being a gold farmer. I just love how you use WoW for every example when it's an outdated game that the company can even recognize.

oh here we go again with khainiwest.... Still upset that I said Rayquaza shouldn't have been surprised for GETTING HACKED playing maplestory.

and maybe you did see a hacker playing WoW.. so what? Over the course of my time playing maple, I've seen hundreds of hackers. There were points in time for the game when you couldn't even train because every map was vack hacked. The economy gets torn to sh*t because of dupe hacking. People holding bosses just so they can monopolize the drops. I still have yet to see a single hacker during my time in WoW. Is it an old out dated game? Maybe, but it's still hacker free. Which is more than I can say for Nexon games

I'm sorry, my computer must be broken, the ctrl F function couldn't find anything pertaining to that subject. Sounds like you're still butthurt for calling you out about your inconsideration and dumb assery. It's okay I forgive you.

Now let me explain something to you that seems to be based off very limited common sense on your end. The reason WoW manages their game better isn't because of a $ figure, it's because they have to. It's a subscription business model, you pay for services, and you can cancel at anytime. However wow asks for a very small fee for you to play, so they want to keep players as long as possible. Nexon is the complete opposite, anyone can join and they invest everything into advertising people to do so. They do cheap gimmicks that if you pay a substantial amount than you get some sudden rush or upgrade that makes you efficient to the game. Nexon temps you with power, doesn't matter how long you play, it's that instant micro transaction they get, and you need a few dozen of those transactions to get the pay off. They focus on the refresh rate of the customers, not keeping them as long as possible.

When a negative thing happens in any game I'm sure you're the first one to stand up and say "SHOULD HAVE PLAYED WoW EVEN THOUGH THERES MAYBE HUNDREDS OF FREE TO PLAY CLONES OF IT, ALL WITH BETTER GRAPHICS". You honestly think people stick to a game because it's good? Look at fu`cking maplestory, its as basic as it gets and has hundreds of active hardcore players. Should I explain the human psychology of "comfort zone" to you? WoW has history and experience with it's players as most of them are long time, because that's what their business model is designed to do, people keep to it because it's something they are familiar with it, period. Much like people have been playing the same call of duty game for the last 10 fu`cking years.

Problems are, for the most part, preventable. Most things that happen to life can be avoided if you're smart enough and actually pay attention. Like you said.... Nexon tempts people in fking ridiculous ways to spend money on the game, but they also have ways for you to get around those. The MTS makes NX accessible to anybody. You don't have to spend anything on Maple ever.

Hell, I've been playing Dragon Nest for the past 3 weeks and I can already see the issues of not having NX. The bag space is extremely limited (without NX) and you can't even mail more than 5 items a day (without NX) to clear bag space. You also can not auction more than 30 items IN A WEEK (without NX). But... just like with Maple, there's ways around it without spending anything. Make a 2nd account and just trade yourself items onto a mule and use their 30 auction slots. Keep making mules as you need more space, and then delete them when there's no more auction slots left.

Nobody forces you to give Nexon a dime, which is why my problem with Nexon has never ever been with NX. They might tempt people but it's their own fault for giving into temptation. With maple they even give you a way to make NX without giving them anything and hopefully something similar comes to dragon nest. My problem with Nexon is, and always will be, the insane amount of hackers. If I start seeing hackers in dragon nest then I can leave knowing I didn't spend anything but my time. I haven't seen any hackers in WoW so I'll continue to play it.

If I get hacked then I have no one to blame but myself for letting someone play my account, or answering a phony e-mail, or even playing a game with a database leak (hmmm where's that from???). I don't sit here and blame outside sources for problems (like people blaming Nexon that they bought NX).

I don't think that Rusty is trying to say that World of Warcraft is superior, just that Nexon, while making around the same kind of money as Blizzard, just fails to support their game properly. Really, it's true. Nexon should be able to provide a higher level of game security than they are, since they make record revenue. There's no excuse.

Of course. Nexon games are FUN. I will never say they're not. Dragon Nest is AMAZING gameplay wise. I've never played a game with such an incredible combat system (ever better than WoW's). Kart Rider was also ridiculous fun. I'll probably never have as much fun playing a racing game as kart rider.

Yeah let's talk about that whole smart thing. You bash nexon for it's insufficient security and irrational customer service, yet play a game that uses both those things by the same company? Lesson learned? Nope. Have you seen the gold farmers in DN? The nx dependency isn't there yet but it's coming. It's just another maplestory escalating. I realized this in 3 days and dropped all nx games completely, yet you continue to support them, and that's as simple as logging in. So any f`ucking opinion you have on maplestory is black kettle smog considering you're playing a game with just as serious problems.

Your argument considering MTS is just as ridiculous. NX rate is currently 1$ to 100m. The economy is so inflated right now that any player would struggle to even obtain NX without actually purchasing it. I don't know when the last time you played MS but the only things valuable that are in the MTS are duped items, or extremely hard to make clean equipment, or gacha items. Although that could have been slightly updated since I've played back in like f`uckin february, but I'll take my risk and assume it hasn't. The players you refer to as "merchanting god's" are probably hackers themselves, depending how far you go back. Merchanting was actually profficient until potential came out, then it all went to sh`it.

And yes you need NX in order to boss past any boss after HT. It isn't a temptation at this point it's a need, and when leveling to 160 takes less than a month, a lot of people need NX all of a sudden.

@justin

Revenue has nothing to do with it. Also like to make clear Rusty has made it perfectly clear that WoW is supperior to any game in our last discussion.

Your last discussion has nothing to do with this discussion. Don't bring it up here - it'll only cause messes, like the one you've made here.

Revenue has everything to do with it. That's what a company uses to expand their games' franchises/products.
