This is what I've done all my life. Every time I skip anything, it'll be diarrhea.

If you don't go, you'll hate yourself the rest of life for it.

So yeah, no excuses, grow up, and just go. Smile

It sounds like it would happen a lot if his school really has a 9:1 female:male ratio.

Just don't go. Heck, I'm not going to my prom this year, a choice I made in my freshman year of high school. If you don't like dancing or interacting with people, like me, then don't go! Just skip town the weekend of your prom and don't tell anyone where you're going. That's what I'm doing at least.

Honestly, diarrhea gets you out of anything. It's your 'get out of whatever you hate' card.

Except he's already committed to going with a specific girl.
It was a matter of 'if you dont want to, dont go' up until he did that.

Now it's not only his night his decision impacts.
It's not having what you want - It's wanting what you've got.

Why go so far as to SKIP TOWN? That's a little extreme. It's not like they're literally going to drag you into prom and torture you.

I spent my prom with my two best friends sleeping over in a basement and playing games or talking about life or whatever. Time well spent? I dunno. Doesn't really matter though. Nothing in high school ever does.

sounds to me more like you would be too easily dragged to the prom, and you know it, so you are skipping town

I didn't even go to my school prom. Made it easier to reject people.
Although your problem lies with giving her something to look forward to, and now having to take that away.

You'd be surprised what my friends would do. They've already made their intentions clear to me: show up at my home when I least expect it and kidnap me.

Exactly. Besides, I have better things planned when I leave town that weekend than attempting to "interact" with people. Not only that, but it irks me as to why people even go to social events like these when clearly the most important thing to do in high school is to keep up your grades and learn to prepare you for college and what you want to do in life, instead of wasting your time on some picayune event that is supposedly "one of the most memorable experiences you'll ever have in your life, period." Humans make no sense to me.

Randoms in real life aren't like randoms you try to PQ with on maple. Holy pomegranate for using that term, by the way.
She could be the sweetest girl in the world and it could start something between you two, who the pineapple knows?

Go man.

I didn't go because I felt weird being gay and going to a prom with all the happy straight couples.

Go, because I regret not going.

Just go. It's a night to dress up and look good and have fun with your friends. And maybe you and the girl who asked you will become friends. What do you have to lose by going?

why even talk to people at school? or on the internet? or at all? it's much more productive to spend your time inventing a cure for AIDS or researching quantum theory.

I had a girl ask me(not outright, but implied heavily), but I didn't go because I couldn't afford it, I had already put my hard earned money towards grad night, and I met a chick there.

I wonder what I could have missed...

just go man, have some fun.
