Last friday, when I was hanging around with my friends waiting for the class, this girl came and asked my name. Then I was asked to this prom in our school. I tried to make something up but ended up saying yes. I didn't really expect to get asked this late anymore. I don't want to dance. I hate dancing. I don't like the teacher and I don't want 4 extra hours of some stupid dancing course to my week next period. I'm not interested in buying that suit either.
I decided that maybe I could withdraw it. I though it's better to tell tomorrow than too late. But how do I tell it? I was thinking of simply saying that my schedule is extremely hard and I don't want the course to stress the hell out of me. I regret saying yes, there has to be a way out...

And no the girl isn't "hot".

Screw "is she hot", is she nice? Like does she have a good personality? Do you have anything in common? Thats what matters, if not well then.... LIE, lie like you have never lied before. Here are some base ideas you can use: family business, family crisis, work(if you have a job), other commitment. Good luck

If you really honestly don't want to go, join your school's debate team.
Sign up for a tournament the weekend of prom.
There are debate tournament literally every weekend.
I know at least 5 people who are going to debate tournaments because they don't want to go to formal/prom.

Just go. People place too much importance on who you're going with. In ten years it's not going to matter so much. Just have a good time.

Absolutely this. I somewhat regret not going to mine. I had nobody to go with since I was closeted, but it still would have been a fun experience. Not to mention my junior and senior prom were both held at Disney World.

Ten? more like two.

Then you don't have to worry about anything but getting to know her and having fun. No long term imprecations or drama to worry about. Do it for the memory because you're an absolute ass if you say yes to something a girl considers this important and then back out. But be up front with her that you're not romantically interested and you're just going to have fun.

what eos said, unless you somehow slip and end spilling the punch or whatever over your head, nobody is going to remember how mad you danced.
not to mention, you could get a new friend, a girl who asks a guy? that's not something i hear everyday.
TL;DR: GO MOTHERFUCKER.

Dude's just shy and socially awkward.
Let the girl pop your social cherry. It'll hurt at first, but later on you will enjoy it. Or bleed to death.

You guys are putting too much of your advice on the thought that he doesn't want to go because of the girl. He doesn't want to go because of the dancing/what everyone considers "fun".
You just shouldn't have said yes if you don't want to go. If you dump her now she's either going to hate you or be fine with it (not like that matters though since you don't know her at all) and then your whole school is going to go through that rumor mill about you being a d'ick for dumping her or some s'hit. You don't have to scrounge for an excuse. Either go, or don't. Just be as nice as you can about it and anyone who thinks less of you can go f'uck themselves. It might even be better if you provide a replacement partner so she isn't stuck going alone.

ShinkuDragon Wrote:not to mention, you could get a new friend, a girl who asks a guy? that's not something i hear everyday. Well your school isn't 90-85% girls. For some reason visual arts "college" tends to attract more girls than males. Here people even ask 1st year students, because of the lack of partner.
Yes I'm shy and socially akward. I do have friends in school, males and females. Most of them are going to prom but there's also few who aren't going who I'm suddenly jealous of. But there's more into it. I've always been taking the easy way out.
I know what you mean when you say I would make myself look like an total ass. Maybe I am... I just wish I would have denied from the start.

The real question is why didn't you?
This obviously isn't a new feeling that spontaneously came over you after you agreed, so what made you say yes in the first place?

Well she asked me if I already had a pair or if I'm gonna dance at all. I told her "I would rather not dance, I don't know" or along these lines. She was like "come on" so I said fine. Maybe it was also the fact that my friends were there too. Just later this weekend I really realised what I had agreed on and how much I was stressing over it.

Well are your friends going? If they had such a huge impact on your decision they must be going too right?
Also your school can force classes on to you? Dont see how going to the prom means you want to take dancing classes.

Some schools have mandatory classes you have to take to be eligible to attend prom, to ensure everyone there can dance "appropriately" and it doesn't turn into some dance and grind contest like a random spring fling.

Just go.. I never went to mine and I so wish I did. (though it's a "i couldn't go" not a "wouldn't")
But it should be fun? What's the point stressing over it. Its not a major part of life but its something that most people look back upon.
