GMS Server Status Discussion < 10-31-2011
modular Wrote:what about placing a second bar of last-checked-times beneath the grid, so that we can see the most recent times for the set of channel XX's? could make it more obvious...

They don't advance together. Each server's testing advances as fast as it can, depending on its channels latency. Also, graphically, no space below the grid for so much text.

Might be neat to see a "sweep line" (as on a radar) - just a little vertical line in each row, after the last-checked channel. Won't tell us how long ago the next one was tested, but if there is a lot of yellow or red left of the line, one could deduce that any green to its right is suspect. Or would that still require too much application of "inside information" on how it works (i.e., would only be understood by those of us who already understand the meaning of a bunch of high-latency yellows followed by greens)?

Or, as I suggested before, fading/graying out any indicator that is over a minute old.

There are several flaws in the suggestions;

1) The process that gets the data and the process that displays the data are not connected to each other, have no awareness of each other and run independently from each other. They don't know what each other are doing and in order for them to do so it'd degrade performance.

2) The display procedure is a cross tab, there's no where to put channel by channel timing in without adding 30% more fields to the query, again, which adds yet more overhead slowing the whole thing down and making it more intensive every time someone hits it. The existing as of date is either a min per server or max (formerly the latter, currently the previous). It can't be readily compared to any other times because they aren't present in the set at the point it exists.

It really seems like a few people just aren't happy with it not doing every possible thing they could ever dream of and desire, right up to hiking itself down to Nexon HQ and slapping an exec every time lag spikes over .1.
It's not having what you want - It's wanting what you've got.

can you code it into doing this?

joke aside (and stupidity in) is there any difference between what it was and what it is, besides it showing latency? from what i get it's working just like it did before, correct?
Eos Wrote:The only difference is instead of them timing out one by one over the course of 15 minutes they blink out collectively left to right in < 6.

nexon should take a look on this:

Actually I am quite happy, for myself, with the way it is now. Was quite content with the one-channel-at-a-time version, for that matter.

What bothers me is the number of people who misunderstand what they see and post such things as "something wrong with Scania and everyone is suffering" or "all flee to channels 9+" or even "the status page only updates every 5 minutes so it's worthless". Guess there's only so much that can be done to make it foolproof without making it too resource-intensive, though. Thank you for an excellent job within the constraints!
Yeah, I can't fix stupid.

And constraint is ultimately the word here. There's only so much that can be expressed in a small amount of space. The more we try to put in there the steeper the curve for understanding it becomes and less value it starts to have overall.

I don't play WoW, but that's is definitely pretty awesome. If Nexon were to look at that, i'm sure they'd donate 100% of the proceeds to themselves though.

Eos love the legend you put there, was going to suggest it yesterday but didn't find the right words, but could you add something like "All channels update from first to last" or would that hurt the servers?

EDIT: Thanks Eos.Heart
Website is down!
Maple going down!
Wonder if we should have some sort of log of when and how long have the servers gone down.
Lovin this game, just looooooooooovin it.
ze end! it'z ze eeeend!
Probably to patch the dupe method that went public a few hours ago.
I love when this happens. It's freaking hilarious!

That'd be nice, and helpful in some cases; like when submitting tickets about crashes resulting in lost items..
Nice lag, SP. Delete please.

I'm waiting for the status page to have a pattern of red and yellow that spells out something insulting or profane.
Would it be difficult to add the nexon.net or maplestory.nexon.net websites too? Lately it has been the maplestory website as well as maple that has been down. I'm wondering if it's a network hardware issue at nexon or if the problem lies with the game servers.
