Actually it's more the opposite. Not to put too much faith in her wording, but "had their accounts compromised" implies it wasn't the players fault. If she had said players compromised their accounts it would support you more. Also, as others have said, a good portion of the people being hacked are quitters or tech savvy people. I think it's more pineappleed up to assume every person who's been hacked recently was the result of a phishing/keylogging attack than to assume it's a security flaw. I think you place too much value on the power of the script kiddies and cs2 students you call hackers to develop and distribute these untraceable keyloggers that are affecting a relative pomegranate ton of players..

Just going to add a point here (hopefully this isn't necro-ing..)

As I booted up my computer this morning, Microsoft detected and deleted a keylogger virus "EyeStye.N". I had no idea this was here (or why Microsoft only detected it just now), except for the fact my Norton kept deleting config.bin. After reading up on it on the Microsoft archives, it hides itself and creates files and such in various folders..

My account was hacked almost 1 month ago - I hadn't downloaded anything in the recent times before I was hacked. Not sure if this can relate at all, but I'm just putting my own case out there - I (possibly) got hacked because of a virus.

However, my account was hacked and left in the same way others were..

Don't worry, you can join Bobby, Phu, me, and many others. Submit a ticket in case they actually do something though, or use it as an excuse to quit for good

Well, I'm not sure if anyone knows (yet), but Nexon sent out a statement saying they're going to compensate us in class-specific packages..
 Spoiler

Saw it this afternoon as I was checking what Sudden Attack was; people on other forums are also receiving this for their tickets..

Perhaps this "package" might be good, who knows? Although, seeing as they might want this to benefit the general population, it might not have anything worth over 100m...

EDIT: This came from my "Work-In-Progress" ticket, which has been sitting around for about 1 month now. Hopefully others are getting this as well~

Ugh. I haven't played since May or so.

I better check and see my damage here.

They added that comment to my WIP ticket that's been open since 01/12/2010 04:50 PM PDT

LOL mine has one too from back then.

"Thank you very much for your unyielding UNDYING patience as we know you may have waited long. We will contact you once again once these compensation packages have been rolled out in the game."

So yay. Turn in 'i was hacked ticket', get auto-reply of specific generic crap. Happy Mapling!

I wonder how many people are going to claim they were hacked to get the care package?
I know I instantly thought of doing that when I saw it.

Not any package can probably include items with already-specified unique potential (which I doubt they'd give out anyways), so probably many people won't even have 1/10 of their old items' value compensated.

I consider it not fair to those poor innocent people who had their accounts compromised, and I think that they should implement an item tracking feature to be able to give back the EXACT stolen items to the right owners, removing them from the hands of whoever got them. Sure, it wouldn't be fair to those who bought them from the hackers without knowing they were from hacked accounts, but it's the only solution I can think of right now. Tracking every transaction would probably be even better, so that people who bought them would get their money back, but it'd probably be a too long process, and probably exploitable.

The best one would obviously be better security overall, but we know that's not going to happen. Not anytime soon, at least, if things keep going like this.

That said, it's really a shame that they decided to give out an automated answer to everyone who was hacked, including those who opened a ticket almost over 1 year ago, without considering each single case carefully. It'd be very long and painful, but players would probably be much happier than by receiving a package based on your job, class and level, unless it includes stacks of GM scrolls for several equips.

I still wonder what's the point of listing ALL your most important lost items with their stats etc. when all they plan to do is giving out a package which will be the same for everyone and only based on the above-mentioned things.

A generic class specific package will be worthless.

At best, I'd expect a maybe level 100-110set/weapon for high levels, reverse if they're being REALLY generous. And 7 60%s for your weapon. I don't expect any scrolls for any other item type. And certainly not potentialed.

I'd think tracking every transaction is a taller order than securing logins. Although if they could track all transactions they'd be able to address more than just people knocking over accounts. They'd be able to trace botters and hackers through to their shop mules and ban most or all of their characters. Still though, you have to have a pulse before you can run a marathon.

Really, do we have to just continuously repost that guy saying the login server returns the real password to the client till they change it?

Everyone's overlooking the quirk of my own hacking - All my Maple stuff is locked. They couldn't take any of it.

The only thing they took from me is my NX, charged for use in Mabi, via MTS.
That transaction is/was logged and they could've reversed it and refunded me instantly rather than making me wait a year to offer me compensation in the form of some generic package for a game I don't play. Even now that they've acknowledged what happened they could do that.

My only hope is that their 'compensation package' for a level 200 mage includes a heft dose of actual NX (credit or prepaid), not maplepoints.

Anything else and I'll just be trying to farm it off.

Here's what I want them to give us:
For 120+ players:
+10 with armor 60% scroll for our class's primary stat Chaos Zakum Helmet, unidentified potential (ie, 41/21/21/21 for warriors and buccs, 21/41/21/21 for archers and sairs, 21/21/41/21 for magicians, and 21/21/21/41 for thieves)
+7 with 60% effects reverse weapon, unidentified potential.
Overall and shoes with the effect of being scrolled seven times successfully with 60% primary stat scrolls (+7) and unidentified potential
Gloves that are +5 with Glove for Attack or Magic Attack depending on class (ie, 10att) and unidentified potential
So, for my Bishop, I would get:
21/21/41/21 Czak u/h hidden pot
86att 149 mAtt 7 int Reverse Aeas Hand u/h hidden pot
14 Int 4 luk 1 mAtt Reverse Cabatina u/h hidden pot
5 Int 5 luk 10 mAtt Reverse Hermosa u/h hidden pot
29 Int Reverse Myst Blue u/h hidden pot

Or maybe just a full Von Leon set for your class. Actually, I like that better. But it's less likely.

Why would we keep reposting a blatant lie no one has been able to recreate or confirm?

Something that easy should be very simple to prove or find evidence of, otherwise it wouldn't be a risk in the first place.

I think they went to work and changed that pretty quickly and quietly, there have been a lot of changes to the site that weren't announced.
