They're worth a lot more than they should be imo.

$140 isn't exactly bank breaking. Most game systems cost more than that and the games themselves cost anywhere from 5 to 10 times the cost of the average book, with less re-usability in most cases, far more restrictive DRM (I can loan my e-books, can you loan your DLC for your games, let alone the games themselves in the ones that required online registration?).

It's nice that it's worth more than you're willing to pay for what it provides, but that isn't an acceptable basis for someone categorically declaring the product itself sucks. The two concepts are rather distinct.

I don't actually read any books, which is the main basis behind my decision against buying such an item, not because the price is too much or it's too restrictive or any other common argument against the device that you could fathom as being part of my opinion. You asked why they were so opposed to the item, and i simply gave you (2 at this point) reasons why i agreed with them. To someone who enjoys books, such as yourself, kindles aren't terrible. To a lot of people (who play maplestory anyway), it probably won't see much use.

That's not agreeing with them though.
You have no use for one. They said they suck. One is a measure of how you value an item, one is a measure of quality.
Just because both end in you not being interested in one, does not mean you agree with them on why.

Personally, as odd as this sounds I like a fiction story to actually be in a book. The only thing I can read online or with that format is news articles, but if I want to read a published story I'd rather read it as a book like old format.

Kindles are only $80 now anyway, so it's literally a few bucks short of being the same price as a new game.

Middle tier ones are still 140, so I was averaging more or less.

Paperbacks are significantly less thrilling when you have over 300 of them and need to move 800 miles, alone. Twice.

It really depends on how you mean it.
You can get to anything a web-browser can get to via a kindle.
You can also email it anything to convert into it's own format via a your-username@kindle.com
But it's not really designed for actual browsing of a network file system natively. It's OS doesn't think in the right sort of terms for that.
