You miss the damnedest things while being a clueless twit too.
It's not having what you want - It's wanting what you've got.

Touché- noun.
An acknowledgement of the success, appropriateness or superiority of an argument or discussion; sometimes used sarcastically to mock one's opponent's absurd logic.
How do you know you're a woman? Have you ever checked? - Touché..
Ew, I have been using that word wrongly my entire life.
Eos Wrote:How do you even know she's really back and i'm not still screwing with you in a thread openly labeled [PRANK]?

What did you think it meant?
Just wondering.
"Ouch, you touched a nerve" or something like that.
It's actually a fencing term, it means literally 'touch', as in 'you scored a hit' or 'you got me'.

See, no. That's the 1st definition on Wiktionary, I used the second. Much more relevant in context.

No, the portion you quoted lacked the explanation of why it meant that, which was the relevance of the primary definition.

The actual meaning is important to properly understanding the idiomatic usage.

Saying that it's an acknowledgement of success when that's obviously not the literal meaning is giving an incomplete explanation if you don't provide the background that justifies the interpretation.

*sigh*
You always have to be right, don't you?
We're arguing over the definition of a word?

...Why?

When I am, yes.

Panacea Wrote:We're arguing over the definition of a word?

Because the abuse of vocabulary is a horrible crime against humanity.

Ask Eos.
EDIT: Plus, we're not arguing over the definition. He's arguing that we should trace the roots of words back to their descendants. Which is important etymologically, but none of us are etymologists. As far as I know.
