Unofficial Monster Hunter Thread

Well, since it seems that there's a fair number of Southperricans that play Monster Hunter, I figured we may as well have a thread for our collective flaunting/tales of getting our asses handed to us.

Today was pretty interesting. Fought my first Alatreon and lost horribly.

Fought Lagiacrus once again much easier with some barrel bomb L+, also spammed them at Uragaan because I fight cheaply like that. That thing is annoying to get near don't know how I did so well with dodging Uragaan the first time I tried fighting it got knocked all over the second and third time...

Can't stand to use a great sword for anything but Lagiacrus and other (mostly) aquatic monsters how do people use those out of water?

Oh repelled Ceadeus the other day, cool fight fun to use the dragonator and ballista was easy though. I need a internet connection thing for my wii...

Most Great Sword users (That I've played with, at least) don't usually rely on combos. They get some Diablos armor set and use Critical Draw and just devote themselves to using charged draws for stuff like tail cuts or breaking parts.

IIRC Ludroth Spear makes Barroth easy mode.

I used full rhenoplos armor and a royal claw SnS for barroth was very easy to fight with, good mobility helps with getting under it to cut its arms. Though all that sucks for cutting the tail learned how to use a switch axe or long sword against it for that kind of thing.

Yeah, I have a full set of both Jaggi and Rhenoplos armour. I heard either upgraded SnS or Lance would be awesome against Barroth. My only real problem? Deciding between CC1 or CC2 because I have to "re-learn" the controls. (ﾉ´∀｀*)

I've only really tried SnS and Lance..... I wanna get better at Hammer at least. :V

Haven't touched Tri for a while, but from what I remembered, I'd just use full Qurupeco and hammer Barroth.
Superpound his legs while rolling out of the way with the help of Evade+1 from the set.
Triple pound his head/belly when he's down.

Got knocked out because a Rathian in free hunt now I feel like an idiot.

Didn't really expect a Rathian to appear the forcast was for great jaggi and royal ludroth killed both of those then it came out of nowhere. Didn't bring any good healing items (royal ludroth and great jaggi are easy) and got very sloppy on dodging and went way too aggressive with random attacks plus I stood in the middle of her fire attacks with Lagiacrus armor on.

I need to quit playing when half asleep.

switch-axe gets used the most, lance and hammer get used situationally.

i need to start farming more armor, i just did the gobul urgent quest and i'm still sporting a jaggi set haha.

When two monsters show up in the forecast and you kill both of them, you usually get a random spawn after that. If it's just one monster on the forecast, you get another spawn of the same monster and after that no more large monster spawns.


@Above - I usually use Hammer, Switch Axe, or SnS, and I'll Lance when I fight Diablos or Alatreon (And occasionally against Leviathans, although I can kill those with almost any weapon.).

I used to Bowgun often, but I'm pretty rusty at it now.

I am awful with using lances I like dodging everything more than defending so I try to dodge with one and it just does a back step and I usually get hit.

Completely destroyed rathians but never got rathian plates, read the drop rate is really low and out of the 20 or so I have killed never got one. Some items are just way too rare.

3% chance for a break reward for breaking her head, 3% chance to carve from her tail, 2% chance for a capture reward.

I'm so pomegranate with hammers that I just upgraded my SnS to the Royal Ludroth Claw something rather.

Was a slow fight, probably should have used my Knight Lance. Gotta get used to countering.

Monster Hunter 3-G has me excited.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, praying for 3DS release. After just finding out it's Sony that's delaying P3rd, I have some hope that we'll actually get the ones released for Nintendo.

Still have to save up for a 3DS (Lite).

How is Sony delaying that?

Hopefully Monster Hunter 3-G will be released in north america and such Tri apparently did well on the Wii here. See no reason for it to not come out here really. I will have to get a 3DS soon anyhow all my DSes inconveniently broke at the same time else than my old one which needs a new shell.

Did well the other day against a qurupeco killed it without getting hit once..with a switch axe.

And finally that armor is awesome looking.

How is Sony delaying that?

They [SCEA and SCEE] have to make exceptions to approve this sort of project in the West: one that runs on PS3 but doesn’t have trophies or make use of regular PSN for online play… it uses a modification of adhoc party which doesn’t exist in the West.

In short, it requires them to localize and launch SCEJ network services (which is development work and QA/support on their side) that don’t currently exist in either territory and a release it from the usual platform requirements for trophies, etc. It’s not trivial on Sony’s part.

Well, I can see where they're coming from with delaying it, honestly. They'd have to rework how the multiplayer works, and that could be more trouble than it's worth in the end.

But eh, we'll see how it goes, I guess.
