Microsoft Windows Server 8 - We Nobify EVERYTHING... PART DEUX....

Ok, welcome to part 2 (part 1 here)

This time it's Microsoft Windows Server 8, the serious corporate OS from Microsoft, meant for servers (which competes with Linux, Unix, etc).

Well, so Microsoft also revealed their plans for their vision of the future of servers... anno 2011... And... I was shocked... shocked by the worst pure single minded commercial crap talk since a long time.

What is happening? Ok let me explain...

A server OS is not meant as a casual OS like WinXP, Win7, etc. It's meant to deliver the most power you can get out of your server park.

That's why Unix is still being used in 2011, even when it doesn't have a GUI. It's aimed at pure command line input, and that's all. Pure power, no fuss...

Linux is even more popular then Unix, especially since it has quite an advanced GUI these days, so you can configure and maintain several events at once time at one screen (multitasking) while keeping the resources for this GUI very, very low...

Now... and then there is still Windows Server... It always was popular among it's users since it had a good but non-heavy GUI, long before Linux's GUI was in the state that it is now.

But now, welcome to 2011, the year that design guru's take over your life, they also struck Windows Server...

From now on, you have to choose:
- Windows Server 8 - Without ANY GUI - Ok, I can live with that, for people who want to get 99,99% of their CPU power for performance.
- Windows Server 8 - With the METRO interface - ... W T F ...

No, you can't uninstall this tablet OS interface on your server, you HAVE to use it, consuming at least 5% ~ 10% of your CPU resources... WHY OH WHY... -.-

Why can't a server OS not have that basic GUI like windows NT always had? Which was excellent for multitasking and configuring server applications while hardly using any kind of resources?

This is just so wrong...

All I can say... I guess Linux will become even more popular now!

Companies will have to rewrite and migrate a lot of their applications anyway, since -ANY- WinServer app that needed a GUI, doesn't work on Win8 Server NoGUI.

It's the Win8 Server -with- GUI that is being noobified, since you can't scrap it (by default) from a touch screen tablet interface that no one needs in a server OS, well unless you install Win8 Server on a... tablet... xD

I asked for a citation on your "5 to 10% cpu usage" of the GUI and for the Windows Server 8 GUI using more resources than previous Windows Server versions, not compared to a command line.

In the rare case that they needed the GUI system for an application, they wouldn't turn it off, now would they?
