Last I checked you could change your pw by answering your seceret question, or if you hadn't set them up your DOB & last name. You only needed e-mail if you "forgot" your password, but you have the pw right?

I guess because I haven't changed anything in my account for a while (besides my password) it asks me to verify my current e-mail. Unfortunately, my e-mail expired, so I can't access it, neither have I even made a security question; if it was still DOB + last name then I'd be able to change my account.

But since I can't access my expired e-mail, I can't change any aspect of my account, leaving the hacker free to roam on it. Frown
Although it's my own stupidity for not changing the expired e-mail while it was still active, it goes against any speculation of any Gmail or Hotmail hackings. (Since my registered e-mail is a private domain.)

I think it depends... For some accounts I need to vertify with email when I want to change password and for some accounts I just need the DoB and last name.

Edit: And it is not depends on how active of your account/how long ago you change your password... My main account asks for email verification even I change the password once every 3 days.

Lol what can you even do competitively in this game anymore? Just can't beat hackers whoo!

Then don't beat hackers. Just compare with your buddies/guildies, and be able to kill the bosses you enjoy slaying. :f6:

Lol yeah I don't bother competing anymore; but at least you had the option of competing before.

Right, in between the semi-annual massive exp hacks... the only time the ranks haven't been flooded with illegit characters was maybe the first 6 months of the game. By early 2006 there were botters shooting up the ranks in every server, and most high level characters weren't legit since then.

Yesterday, someone logged on to my friends account, spammed "ECKO OWNZ" a couple of times in BL, and then took all her items and logged off...

Well i know this doesnt cover MOST the people hacked, but i did hear of an amusing case where people who had downloaded a "trainer" program on another website didnt know it had a trojan in it and that person released the account info of over 1000 people. Guess in this case CHEATERS NEVER WIN, if its true.

Oh my gosh... ECKO... that happened before... (but I can't remember when/where)

By using the name ECKO nowadays, it can easily be truth...as much as a mere fad to keep the identity of the person anonymous.

Aliases online, after all, are aliases...

Hadriel

I am 99% confident that that was not Ecko.

They're just trying to put the blame on someone else. Easiest to blame one of the 'known' hackers.

They should have went with anonymous, I would love to see the shitstorm on the news about them now targetting kids' games.

Or Lulzsec.
It would have been amazing to see everyone going apeshit.

In my case, I have never downloaded anything in the past few days; I've just been playing some OGPlanet games (that I've played for years) then Maplestory to set up the shop.
(This program thing doesn't apply to me, but just to put it out there..)

I'm concerned for the fact that the hacker(s) may come back onto the account to check it again (and hack it again) - has anyone had/heard
such a case?

Doubtfully you'll be hacked twice by the same hackers.

Why would they bother checking already hacked accounts that are either abandoned or still recovering the lost meso? They might be very lucky and find out that the guy they hacked two weeks ago is a godlike scammer merchant and made 2b meso with those 100k the hackers kindly left last time, but that's rare.

Maybe Nexon's replacing and reorganizing the login and game servers will thwart the account hackers for a while.
Let's note if there is a pause in the hacking spree while the hackers update their tools. If so it would be evidence that player error or mysterious undetectable keyloggers are not the cause of most of the hacking as Nexon and its sycophants would have us believe.

Depending on how competent the hackers are at what they do, it could be a lot sooner than you think, unless they updated more than just the servers; it takes what, 5 seconds to plug in a new IP address? I wish companys were a LOT more transparent in situations such as this. If they released everything they did in great technical detail, 99% of the people would ignore it and the other 1% that actually understand it would feel more confident in the game, OR they would be able to provide feedback if not. They think that by releasing the information it will tip off the hackers on what they "didn't" patch, but, really, the sad fact is they will know immediately even without it being pointed out. I'm sure all of the people that are pathetic enough to be dedicated MS crackers are having fun today testing for new holes and probing old ones to see if they are patched or not.

283 of them on the other hand... very tedious.
