Read away.
I'm too lazy to post a bunch of stuff right now, but in my opinion, Windows 8 makes me sad.
For those interested in installing the Windows 8 Developer Preview, PCWorld provided links and a guide here.
Bullet Info: - UI takes advantage of touch screen more in addition to keyboard/mouse
- Start Menu is friggin ridiculous and includes everything ever
- As seen in the above, Windows 8 uses the Metro design language a lot (the Start screen is an example of it being used)
- While the regular desktop is still available, this setup comes as default
- Windows 8 will take advantage of the Azure cloud service to save your settings, IE browser history, etc. across PCs the way Chrome does now, by using a Windows Live ID
- With the above, Windows 8 will use SkyDrive with the cloud to store your stuff (you get a 25GB limit at first)
- Microsoft is putting XBOX Live in Windows 8
- Windows 8 will come prepackaged with Security Essentials (pretty much) through Windows Defender
- Windows 8 will come with SmartScreen to further protect your computer against malware (will check applications against a reputation list)
- There will be an app store similar to Apple's and Google's
- Microsoft will NOT support Flash or other plugins with Windows 8, instead using HTML5 standards (only for Metro)

quite a lot of things sound a bit bad about Windows 8, but I hope Microsoft gives us the choice to change things to our liking.
for now, I'll just reserve judgement until it is actually released as a finished product.

I don't quite get the whole Windows 8 naming scheme. It was 2000, XP, Vista, 7 (I heard something about servant, so it may have been that)... But Windows 8?...

I see a pattern here...
About the naming:
Windows NT 3.5 > Windows 2000 (NT 4.0) > Windows XP (NT 5.0) > Windows Vista (NT 6.0) > Windows 7 (NT 7.0) > Windows 8 (NT 8.0)
Well, this isn't REALLY true, because the NT (Network Terminal) is aimed at the Windows Server OS, but Microsoft agrees with this OS count .

It doesn't seem as promising as 7 was....
But, the beta is months away so who knows what will change?

IGN: I don't play MS
They're mostly just making Windows more friendly to touch and mobile interfaces. That's why it looks pretty boring.

I'm curious what people would like to have in a new OS that we don't already have.

Hmm... I'm not digging the tile look at all. Unless there are more favorable details near launch date, I guess I'll stick to Windows 7 and wait for Windows 9.
