First season really was that sad to me. Second was just sad juice up til the end.
Separate, to me the first season was about happiness and fun, while the second is about sadness and sorrow for the later part of it. Overall, the story it builds from meeting to family to death is nothing but great.

Recommending against FMA: Brotherhood. The last 20-ish episodes dragged on far too long and the show had way too many stupid moments for my taste, eg "I can make fireballs by snapping my fingers, but I'm going to fight with my fists instead".

Didn't see this on the list so I'm recommending it.
The plot might get a bit confusing the first time you watch it since it doesn't explain things in detail, but I still recommend watching it. (At least watch the first 10 mins)
Overall it has great music, fantastic visuals, over the top action, and has a good dub.

Durarara!! | Action | Romance, Supernatural | 26 Episodes (They made Episodes "12.5" and "25" later after it was completed).
Both are great animes, in my opinion, though I would consider Durarara!! in the "Mystery" department as well.

I watched this entire anime, and in between individual episodes barely anything happened. It was far too slow pace. There were too many episodes where the only relevant information occurred in the last 3-4 minutes. I also felt that I could skip entire episodes, and because of the extensive review over previous episodes in later episodes, I wouldn't have missed a thing.
Feel free to disagree with me, but that's how the anime came off to me when I finally finished it. I felt like the majority of my time watching it was wasted.

For anyone that missed this last season, this anime was basically one of the shows that everyone watched, and that everyone loved every single episode. Its a great story with a slightly complex love pentagon going on. The conclusion was the only thing some people will think is unsatisfying, but it does not take away from the beautiful story one bit.

Recommending: Kids on the Slope (Sakamichi no Apollon): A slice of life/Coming of age/Music anime about several high school students, their passion for jazz, and life in general.
Why you should watch it: Well, mainly because it's a nice breath of air in comparison to the overabundance of moe/loli/shonen stuff. Plus Shinichiro Watanabe and Yoko Kanno teamed up again. They previously worked together on Macross and Cowboy Bebop. If that doesn't get you interested, then you have no taste. Yes I said it.
